Few players let the fans in like Charles Omenihu.

Few players give their fans an inside view into their emotions and thoughts like Kansas City Chiefs pass rusher Charles Omenihu. The defensive lineman has been faithful to document so much of his story with impressive episodes on YouTube over the last year and his latest release wraps a three-episode arc of his return to the field in 2024.
Omenihu suffered a tragic ACL tear in the 2023 AFC Championship game and went on to have surgery and subsequent rehabilitation for the next several months. He missed all but six regular season games for the Chiefs in 2024, although to his credit, his return was a serious boost to the team’s pass rushing efforts.
While the Chiefs failed to earn a historic three-peat with a defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, Omenihu was at least able to suit up for the big game this time around. He helped the Chiefs make it all the way back to the championship—the first team in NFL history to even appear in a third consecutive Super Bowl after winning the two previous titles.
Charles Omenihu’s YouTube presence is a vulnerable gift for his biggest fans.
Omenihu debuted the third and final episode in his series entitled “The Return” on Tuesday. Each seven-minute release details a part of Omenihu’s journey back to the field after the injury and this one takes you into the Super Bowl. The whole series is worth watching, but it was nice to hear Omenihu’s reasons for doing the video series in the first place.
“I just want to thank everybody for following me through the journey and then also taking the road down with me to the return,” he says in Episode 3. “The season didn’t end how we wanted it to. I just thank God that he gave me the ability and chance to show everybody kind of what it looked like to hit rock bottom and come back up and succeed, even when you felt like all things are going against you.
“I started documenting my story and the journey and everything when I got hurt because I kind of just wanted to inspire people to see that whenever you have reached the top—I had a strip sack of Lamar [Jackson] and I was on top of the world and then the next pile went down—that you can come back from that. I don’t want people to think that you can’t come back from something so tragic, something so painful, and just keep your head down the whole time.
“I wanted people to have some sort of inspiration. What I do is shine light on people and I just want to give everybody like, ‘Hey, we’re all human. We all go through stuff. But you can make it through. Just put your head down, trust God, and work.’”
Omenihu also added a message for Chiefs fans near the end of the video with a shout out for their support during his time at Arrowhead. Now a free agent, Omenihu might find his fourth NFL team this offseason depending the opportunity, but most Chiefs fans are hoping he returns. Until then, he at least had this much for the Kingdom.
“I appreciate Chiefs Kingdom for all the support for everything I’ve done. Year six was a blast. I wish that we’d won. I wanted to bring the three-peat. I wanted to win a Super Bowl. I wanted to play. But God had other plans. But we’ll be back. I can’t say much else. I appreciate the love.”
