To say that the Skyy Moore experiment has been a colossal failure would be an understatement. The Kansas City Chiefs spent a second-round pick on the Western Michigan product in the 2022 draft hoping that he could be a new favorite weapon for Patrick Mahomes.
Sadly, that hasn’t panned out. Moore has mostly become a punchline amongst Chiefs Kingdom for not living up to expectations. It seemed to be a pretty strong consensus that he wouldn’t be on the Chiefs’ roster this year and that the team’s third and final preseason game next week would be his last as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Well, as Lee Corso always says, “Not so fast, my friend”. Moore had a lousy start to the Chiefs’ Week 2 preseason game against Seattle but he did his best to erase that sour taste from people’s mouths, returning a punt 88 yards down the field for a touchdown. It was as if Moore’s entire career was on display in one game.
Chiefs can’t let one punt return TD cloud Skyy Moore reality
Even if the punt return for a touchdown was a cool moment for Moore, it doesn’t change the fact that the guy has been a massive disappointment since entering the league three years ago. The Chiefs drafted him early on the second day hoping that he could become a superstar in their offense but that never came to fruition.
Not only has Moore not been a star for this team but he’s barely been able to do much of anything. In three seasons with Mahomes as his quarterback and Andy Reid as his head coach, Moore has mustered a measly 494 yards and one touchdown off 43 receptions in 36 games. He did have a touchdown in Super Bowl LVII but that’s about where the highlights stop for the former second-rounder.
With the other promising options the Chiefs have at wide receiver (Jason Brownlee and Tyquan Thornton to name a few), they can’t continue to give Moore opportunities that he hasn’t been able to take advantage of. Time to move on and give someone else a chance.
