Tottenham make major Eberechi Eze transfer breakthrough as they close in on £60m deal for Crystal Palace star - Gentle Soccer

Tottenham Hotspur are edging ever closer to landing one of their biggest transfer targets of the summer, with a deal for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze now in the advanced stages, according to talkSPORT.

Sources suggest negotiations between the two London clubs have progressed significantly, with Spurs prepared to pay around £60 million for the England international. Discussions are ongoing, but both sides are increasingly optimistic that an agreement will soon be reached.

Chairman Daniel Levy is personally driving the negotiations, underlining just how highly Tottenham value Eze. However, the transfer is not yet a done deal. Palace remain firm in their stance that no departure will be sanctioned until a suitable replacement is secured. For the time being, Eze is expected to continue training and playing as normal while talks play out behind the scenes.

The timing of the deal is also crucial. The 26-year-old’s £68 million release clause at Selhurst Park expired last Friday, leaving Palace with greater control over his immediate future. Despite mounting speculation and reports that he has informed the club of his desire to move on, Eze still featured in Palace’s goalless draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Manager Oliver Glasner even insisted post-match that he expects his star man to remain involved this week, with Palace preparing to face Norwegian side Fredrikstad in the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off. Glasner explained:

“Eb should have scored a goal today – he had one chance but it was ruled out. He will be at the training ground tomorrow, we’ll rest Tuesday, train Wednesday, and I expect him to play against Fredrikstad.”

Yet, despite Glasner’s words, Eze’s actions on Sunday told a different story. The midfielder appeared emotional at full-time, applauding the travelling supporters in what many interpreted as a possible farewell gesture.

If the deal is finalised, Eze will become Tottenham’s seventh signing of an already busy summer under new head coach Thomas Frank. The former Brentford boss has overseen a significant squad overhaul, with more than £125 million already spent. Key arrivals include the permanent signings of Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso, while Joao Palhinha arrived on loan from Bayern Munich and Mohammed Kudus joined in a £55 million move from West Ham.

Eze, with his creativity, dribbling, and eye for goal, would add another dimension to Frank’s attack as Spurs prepare for a Champions League campaign and aim to mount a serious top-four challenge domestically.

Who Could Replace Eze at Palace?

For Crystal Palace, the challenge now is finding the right successor with less than two weeks of the transfer window remaining. The Eagles’ recruitment team have already earmarked Leicester City midfielder Bilal El Khannouss as a prime target. The Moroccan international was available earlier in the summer for £22 million due to a release clause, but with that clause now expired, Leicester are holding out for closer to £30 million.

Another option under consideration is Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, who previously had a brief spell in the Premier League with Norwich City. Palace are weighing up their options carefully, aware that losing Eze so late in the window could prove disruptive if a replacement is not swiftly secured.

For now, Eze remains a Palace player, but the growing expectation is that he will be wearing the white of Tottenham Hotspur before the end of the month. With Levy pushing hard to finalise terms and the player himself keen on the move, it appears only a matter of time before Spurs announce their latest high-profile signing.

Would you like me to make this read more like a breaking news report (short, punchy updates) or more like a feature piece (storytelling style with background on Eze’s career and what he brings to Spurs)?
