Given how things went down between Pro Bowl wide receiver Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins at the end of last season and into the offseason, few would be surprised if the 31-year-old wideout were traded at some point this season.

Hill had a forgettable season debut in Miami’s 33-8 defeat to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, logging four catches on six targets for 40 yards.

Though his name was already being mentioned in trade speculation around the league, it picked up some momentum on Monday thanks to NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Florio hinted that a trade for Hill could happen sooner than some anticipate, and he named two teams that are the presumed frontrunners should a deal actually come to fruition.

“If the ship continues to sink, Hill becomes an asset that can be flipped into a draft pick,” Florio wrote. “For now, there are two teams to watch. First, the Chiefs. For obvious reasons. Hill starred in Kansas City until his desire for more money (and perhaps to not be in the shadow of Patrick Mahomes and/or Travis Kelce) sparked a trade.

“During his apology tour in advance of Super Bowl LIX, Hill admitted on ‘PFT Live’ that he sometimes regrets leaving the Chiefs. And the Chiefs could use him, before and after Rashee Rice returns from his six-game suspension. Second, the Steelers.”

While a Hill to Pittsburgh trade makes a lot of sense given the team’s need for a complement opposite DK Metcalf and the win-now winder they’re in with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a reunion with the Chiefs almost makes too much sense as well.

The Chiefs are without top WR Rashee Rice until Week 7 as he serves his six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, and second-year wideout Xavier Worthy will likely miss some time after suffering a separated shoulder in KC’s Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Though the expectation is for Worthy to play through the injury with a brace, it’s unlikely he will be at 100% for the rest of the season unless he has surgery to fix his shoulder.

Some of Hill’s best years came while working with Patrick Mahomes—three of his five All-Pro selections and six of his eight Pro Bowls came with the Chiefs—and acquiring a player of Hill’s caliber would take some of the pressure off Marquise Brown and Juju Smith-Schuster to carry the WR corps for the next handful of weeks.
