KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was injured just three plays into the season.
Worthy suffered a shoulder injury after colliding with tight end Travis Kelce on a drag route on the third play of Friday night’s season-opening game between the Chiefs and Chargers.
The Chiefs said Worthy was questionable to return after he walked into the locker room under his own power following a three-and-out opening drive. In the second quarter, Kansas City ruled him out for the game.
Chiefs trainers were attending to his shoulder on the sideline after the play. The YouTube broadcast said Worthy was heading the X-ray room.
Head coach Andy Reid said postgame the team would know more about the extent of the injury once Worthy gets an MRI on Saturday.

The former first-round pick out of Texas was expected to shoulder a significant portion of the Chiefs receiving load with wide receiver Rashee Rice suspended for six games to begin the season.
Rice suffered a friendly-fire injury against the Chargers last season when quarterback Patrick Mahomes dove into his knee attempting to tackle a Chargers defender who had intercepted a pass.
