Manchester United Reach Verbal Agreement for Top Target Despite £55m Bid Being Rejected

Manchester United are still leading the race to sign a key transfer target.

The Red Devils are competing with Tottenham Hotspur, their recent Europa League final rivals, in the summer transfer window. After missing out on a major trophy, United are determined not to lose another crucial battle — this time in the transfer market — as they fight to sign Brentford’s star winger, Bryan Mbeumo.

Tottenham’s chances have improved with the hiring of former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, who is keen to reunite with Mbeumo. This has strengthened Spurs’ position, but United still seem confident about sealing the deal for the Cameroon international.

Bryan Mbeumo Deal ‘On’ for Manchester United

Reporter Florian Plettenberg stated that Spurs, under Frank’s leadership, are pushing hard to convince Mbeumo to join them. However, Manchester United have already opened talks with Brentford, and Mbeumo has reportedly given his approval to join the Red Devils. A verbal agreement is already in place, with United optimistic about completing the transfer.

Earlier this week, The Mirror revealed that Tottenham submitted a £70 million bid — £65 million upfront and £5 million in add-ons — to try and hijack United’s move for the player. Spurs’ chairman, Daniel Levy, is also pushing for the signing as a major statement for the club.

United’s Initial Offer Rejected

Despite Spurs offering more, Mbeumo is said to prefer a move to Old Trafford. United’s initial £55 million offer was rejected by Brentford, but they are preparing an improved bid to secure the winger quickly.

Mbeumo reportedly views Manchester United as his preferred destination, leaving the final hurdle as an agreement on the transfer fee between the clubs.

In addition to pursuing Mbeumo, United are also looking to sign an experienced striker to solve their scoring problems. They managed just 44 goals in the Premier League last season — one of the lowest tallies in the league. New manager Ruben Amorim is determined to bolster the attack, but the competition in the transfer market is intense as several clubs chase the same key players
