Trade proposal has Yankees acquiring Chris Sale.

The New York Yankees are one of the best teams in the MLB and will look to bolster their rotation ahead of the trade deadline.

The Yankees have a need in the rotation and could look to go after one of the best pitchers in baseball in Chris Sale of the Atlanta Braves. With Sale potentially on the market, here is a three-player blockbuster trade proposal that would see the Yankees acquire Sale.

Yankees acquire:

  • Chris Sale

Braves acquire:

  • Spencer Jones
  • Brock Selvidge

The proposed deal would be a blockbuster as New York would acquire Sale for two top-10 prospects, including their second-ranked prospect.

The Yankees would acquire Sale, who’s earning $22 million this season and has a club option for $18 million. Sale would be the Yankees’ No. 3 starter behind Max Fried and Carlos Rodon, which would be a great three-man rotation for a playoff series. Sale is 4-4 with a 2.79 ERA in 14 starts this season. He won the NL Cy Young in 2024 and is an eight-time All-Star, as well as winning the World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2018.

Acquiring Sale won’t be cheap, and in the trade proposal, the Yankees part ways with two of their top prospects. The Braves would acquire Jones, who’s an outfield prospect and the Yankees’ second-ranked prospect. Jones was selected in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft and is playing in AA and could reach the majors as early as this season. He’s hitting .220 with 10 home runs this season.

The Yankees would also trade their eighth-ranked prospect in Selvidge. The left-hander was a third-round pick in 2021 and is pitching in AA. Selvidge has risen up the ranks and could reach the majors this year, which makes him an enticing trade chip.

MLB Analyst Believes Braves Will Trade Sale

Yankees-Braves Trade Idea Gives New York Another Hard Throwing Left-Handed Pitcher - Newsweek

With Atlanta under .500, the Braves could be a team to watch in the trade market ahead of the deadline.

Atlanta has several intriguing trade chips, but none bigger than Sale. Several teams will be after the left-hander, and MLB analyst Chris Rose thinks the Braves will trade the former Cy Young winner.

“I’ll give you one other name, Chris Sale… He is the piece that teams, in a lack of starting pitching market at the trade deadline, that could swing maybe the entire playoffs,” Rose said… “When you are talking about something that could fetch you, I’m not talking High-A prospects here. I’m talking about young guys that can help you continue to make the Braves really relevant.”

The Braves could get a hefty return for Sale, which is why Atlanta may opt to move him.

Yankees GM Hints at Team Adding Pitching

Every contending team in baseball always needs more pitching, and that is the case for the Yankees.

New York has lost Gerrit Cole for the season, while Luis Gil has yet to pitch this season. Ahead of the trade deadline, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman revealed the team’s plans.

“Always pitching, pitching, pitching, whether that’s adding to the rotation or adding to the bullpen,” Cashman said.

The Yankees are currently atop the AL East with a record of 40-25.
