Tottenham fans have their say on Ange Postecoglou sack decision

Daniel Levy has been left with a big decision to make as Tottenham Hotspur cool off after the lows of the Premier League campaign and the highs of winning a European trophy. Some Spurs fans in the football.london comments section worry about what will come next if the club decide to part ways with Ange Postecoglou after a rollercoaster of a season.

A decision has not yet been made on whether to keep the faith with the Australian, who won a lot of goodwill with the fans in Bilbao and at the open-top bus parade, alongside his silverware. But the league record is hard to ignore, however many difficult sets of circumstances the club could point at to explain how they ended up finishing 17th.

The players will back Postecoglou, with their strong bond built up over an arduous season on display in Bilbao and change after such a high could disrupt preparations for next season. Time and distance from the big moment, coupled with no immediate show of faith in Postecoglou, means that things aren’t as clear as the fans would like.

That show of faith must come soon, for some fans. Reader Jackrabbitohs says: “His next decision shows his true colours. Does he want to win stuff? Because Ange is a proven winner over many years in many different circumstances.”

Nigel Coyne writes: “WHY give a manager a 4 year contract IF they’re not allowed to see it through? It’s a process and Ange is half way through the rebuild with a European trophy, Champions League football, AND £100M guaranteed! Changing Managers now will put us back years AGAIN!”

THFC4Tim says: “First season, he gets the club back into Europe. Second season he wins the Europa League. It’s very clear, Ange in, Levy out.”

Theczar writes: “It is crystal clear that all of the players have bought in to Ange’s style of play, and to his managerial and coaching abilities. It would be sheer madness to sack him now, at a time when he’s managed to drag Tottenham back to their rightful position close to the top of European football with the promise of playing against the truly great European Clubs during next season.

“And who knows what is possible with a fully fit squad with a few additions, primarily in the play-maker role in midfield and with a fair wind in our sails!”

Others would twist rather than stick, having had a stark reminder of Spurs’ Premier League performances on the final day. Tellie says: “In the moment of winning the cup I thought he should get ten games, but Brighton showed we can’t compete.

“You still need bread and butter, and losing that amount of games is unforgivable. Thanks Ange but get a new manager now so they can have a say in transfers and get a full preseason.”

Reader CFo was also not impressed: “He could barely cope with Europa League and Premier League. We played some very ordinary opposition in the Europa, and he was lucky to face the worst Man U side in years.

“He certainly won’t cope with PL and Champions League. Give him a bonus and send him on his way.”
