Spencer Jones has continued to wow with his power in Double-A Somerset, but the New York Yankees’ prospect also continues to strike out consistently. Whether he can learn plate discipline and maintain his power is the question the Yankees have to answer this season.
While Jones isn’t getting a promotion this week, DJ LeMahieu is. The rehabbing veteran infielder is being moved from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre and will begin playing third base this week.

Rehab Report
Double-A Somerset
Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu started four games at second base last week with Double-A Somerset to begin a lengthy rehab assignment after injuring his left calf during his first spring training game. He went 6-for-10 (.600) with one homer and three RBIs.
“It felt great getting back out there,” LeMahieu said after Sunday’s game against Hartford. “Everything felt good.”
LeMahieu said postgame he was unsure of the plan for the upcoming week.
Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
The RailRiders have lost four in a row and are 12–14, sitting in sixth place in the International League’s Eastern Division.
They open a six-game road trip Tuesday night at Syracuse.
Worth Watching:
Jorbit Vivas had a brief major league call-up last week and continues to produce. He’s hitting .322 with two homers and 15 RBIs through 24 games.
Allan Winans struck out 10 of the first 11 batters he faced Wednesday against Charlotte. The 29-year-old finished with 10 strikeouts over 3 ⅔ innings. He appeared in eight games with the Braves in 2023, going 1–4 with a 7.20 ERA.
Double-A Somerset
The Patriots are 9–12 and fourth in the Eastern League’s Northeast Division.
Somerset opens a six-game series at Richmond starting Tuesday night.
Worth Watching:
Spencer Jones leads the Eastern League with seven home runs. He’s batting .230 with 31 strikeouts in 74 at-bats but has made standout defensive plays in center field.
Class A Hudson Valley
The Renegades are 15–6 and tied for first place in the North Division of the South Atlantic League.
They host a six-game series against Jersey Shore starting Tuesday night.
Worth Watching:
George Lombard Jr. is maintaining a .306 batting average with a .494 on-base percentage. He has stolen nine bases in 11 attempts.
Jackson Castillo drove in six runs during a three-hit game in Saturday’s 15–0 win at Asheville. He’s hitting .267 with one homer and 16 RBIs.
Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz struck out 12 and allowed just one hit over 6 ⅓ innings Friday in Asheville, one shy of Drew Thorpe’s club strikeout record. Rodriguez-Cruz is 2–1 with a 2.42 ERA and has fanned 30 batters in 23 ⅓ innings.
Class A Tampa.
The Tarpons are 8–13 and tied for fifth in the Florida State League’s West Division.
Tampa opens a three-game series at Bradenton on Tuesday before returning home Friday to face Fort Myers.
Worth Watching:
Parks Harber boosted his batting average from .255 to .304 last week. He has three homers and 13 RBIs, although none of his eight hits last week drove in a run.
Roderick Arias, the $4 million international signee in 2022, is hitting .155 but owns a .302 on-base percentage thanks to 14 walks in 18 games. He is 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts but has struck out 23 times in 71 at-bats.
