A proposed trade from an NFL writer has the Kansas City Chiefs trading with the Carolina Panthers for a two-time Pro Bowl player.
It is no secret Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes tries to spread the ball around the field to a varying amount of receivers.
The Chiefs lost DeAndre Hopkins in free agency and were looking potentially at replacing him through this week’s NFL Draft.
However, according to a writer from Last Word on Sports, he is proposing the Chiefs try and obtain Adam Thielen from the Carolina Panthers.
Anthony Palacios lists the Chiefs as the top contender for Thielen.
“The Chiefs don’t need to spend the top dollar for Adam Thielen, and they should get him at the bare minimum if they can. He still has some life in him to help quarterback Patrick Mahomes,” Palacios said.
Thielen played in just ten games in 2024 and is not getting any younger. He is 34 years old, but is productive when he can get on the field.
He would be a nice addition to the Chiefs’ offense. Thielen caught 48 balls for 615 yards and five touchdowns last year in limited playing time. However, in 2023, he made 103 receptions for 1,014 yards. He also had four scores with an offense run by a rookie quarterback.
Thielen would give Mahomes a warrior who he count on, especially when you have to get to the first-down marker. He also should not cost the Chiefs too much by way of draft picks. Further, he is on a cap friendly deal that he signed with the Panthers this offseason.
Palacios, who proposed the swap, does not ultimately think the Panthers would want to go ahead with the deal because they are going to want to keep Thielen for quarterback Bryce Young’s development.
It looks like the Chiefs will ultimately have to find a receiver through the draft after all, if that is the direction they want to go in.
