Why Did Juju Smith-Schuster Make Chiefs Return?

JuJu Smith-Schuster confident in his ability to help the Patriots - Pats Pulpit

Receiver Juju Smith-Schuster can’t get enough of the Kansas City Chiefs, with the former Pittsburgh Steeler returning for another go-around in 2025.

It now marks the second consecutive year that Juju has signed one-year deals with the Chiefs. Going back to 2022, when he first landed in Kansas City, he’s now signed three straight one-year deals, with his year with the New England Patriots sandwiched in between.

This does seem like something is pulling Smith-Schuster back to the organization despite being on the outer of the offense in 2024 (just 231 yards and two touchdowns from 18 receptions).

So why does he keep coming back?

“I think it’s the whole thing,” Smith-Schuster said. “I think it’s the owner, Andy Reid, and his staff, being able to let me play to my potential. I feel like being in that offense has helped my career in so many different ways, but it’s just fun. The guys I get to play with on the offensive side, it makes our job a lot easier for them to do all that, but at the same time, I enjoy playing there, I enjoy the fans, I enjoy everything that comes with Kansas City.”

With the Chiefs set to again be at the pointy end of the Super Bowl conversation, Smith-Schuster will be looked at to be a role player for Reid, especially with Rashee Rice returning, so too Marquise Brown to go along with Xavier Worthy and Travis Kelce, so there are weapons everywhere.

But it appears Smith-Schuster is just fine with that, as what the organization stands for from the front office all the way down to the players is what makes it “fun” for the veteran to come to work.

And when you’re having fun, everything falls into line, and we often see players perform their best, and for Juju, when it comes to his love for the Chiefs, it’s a “whole picture” thing.
