NASCAR Cup Series Driver’s Taylor Swift Connection Turns Into Interview Buzz

NASCAR Cup Series driver Josh Berry has opened up on his link to pop star Taylor Swift, saying he constantly gets asked about it in interviews. Speaking on the Rubbin’ Is Racing podcast, he also pointed out how he was linked to Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce.

Berry revealed that he and Swift went to the same school, but they were in different grades. Despite not being close to Swift, just being in the same school has drawn plenty of attention. Revealing how it becomes a conversation starter, Berry said:

“It’s one of those things when you’re doing an interview one day and somebody’s like, ‘Hey, what’s a funny, crazy story about you?’

“I’m like, ‘Oh, I went to school with Taylor Swift.’ You don’t think that’s that big of a deal. But good gosh, man. It never ends.

“I didn’t really know her. I know of somebody who knew her kind of deal. But I didn’t really know her.”

Surprisingly for Berry, he was also quizzed after Swift began dating Kelce. He added:

“She starts dating Travis Kelce and it all comes back again.

“I’m like, ‘I don’t care about Travis Kelce. He has nothing to do with me.’ It just never ends.”

Berry’s race at Darlington last weekend ended with a crash after making contact with Tyler Reddick’s car, which sent Berry spinning into the inside wall. His Ford sported a throwback paint scheme, dedicated to 1965 Indianapolis 500 winner Jim Clark.

The Goodyear 400 Cup Series race witnessed a major twist at the end, which was being led by Ryan Blaney. Bubba Wallace hit Kyle Larson, causing Larson to spin and crash into the inside wall. The incident brought out the caution flags. Denny Hamlin’s pit crew took advantage and delivered an excellent pit stop while Blaney’s pit crew faltered.

This put Hamlin on the front row and compromised Blaney’s lead. After a couple of laps, Hamlin secured his second win of the season, while Blaney finished fifth. Blaney’s crew chief, Jonathan Hassler, admitted the error after the race. Newsweek Sports reported his statement:

“Yeah, I mean, I think that was really kind of our only play from where we were running to maybe have a shot to win or a good finish. We weren’t going to pit early when those other guys pitted and get to the lead. So, we just kind of chose to do something different, and it worked out.”

He added:

“If you look they definitely had one mistake with the jack that cost us a lot of time. Our last stop was clean. A 9.3, I think, but guys were running low 8s. The 24 I think we matched his time there on the last stop, but in pit stall one, you just have that advantage. So, you know, I think it’s like anything else in the sport. Just takes a little bit of change to go a long way and I think we’ll be able to recover from this.”
