Kuminga was injured halfway through the Warriors’ win over the San Antonio Spurs tonight
Halfway through tonight’s 148-106 win over the San Antonio Spurs, Jonathan Kuminga was ruled out with right ankle soreness after taking a hard fall while driving to the basket.
Per Sam Gordon for the San Francisco Chronicle, Kuminga said he’s “straight” and hopes he won’t miss time.
Kuminga was likely ruled out just to play it safe, as he had already missed time this season because of that same ankle — 31 games, to be exact.
Head coach Steve Kerr also spoke on the injury, per NBC Sports Bay Area.
“Such a bummer,” Kerr said. “[He was] just coming back, finding his rhythm, playing well. So, hopefully, it’s nothing too serious.”
Kuminga, who at just 22 years old has earned his role as a starter and a Warriors mainstay, will be a vital part of the Warriors’ upcoming postseason run. The 6’7” forward has been putting up 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists this season, so keeping him healthy for the playoffs is absolutely vital.
Hopefully, Kuminga is correct about his injury being minor, and we can continue watching him shine in the playoffs.
