Taylor Swift hasn’t done a red carpet on Oscar night in years, nor has the singer ever attended the Academy Awards ceremony. Unsurprisingly, the singer was not at tonight’s show either.

Swift, of course, has no real reason to attend the 2025 Oscars: She is not presenting or performing, and she doesn’t have any nominations either. Her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn is a presenter though, and by skipping, it ensures they won’t have a run-in two years after their 2023 split.

Fans noticed that two of Swift’s Eras Tour dancers, Sam Mcwilliams and Jan Ravnik, performed at the ceremony, though:

It’s been nearly a decade since Swift was photographed at an Academy Awards event. In 2016, she posed at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

While she was dating Alwyn, a British actor, Swift did attend some Oscar events with him. In 2019, she was seen at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party with Alwyn, where onlookers caught them showing a little PDA. She and Alwyn also went to a pre-Oscar event in 2022.

While Swift primarily makes music, the star could have an Oscar moment in the future. In December 2022, Searchlight Pictures announced Swift would be directing her first feature film for the production company.

A year later, Swift spoke about her romantic life in an interview with Time magazine. Months into her new romance with Travis Kelce, the singer shared she felt more comfortable going out despite her fame.

During the six previous years Swift was with Alwyn, she was rarely seen or photographed with him.

“Over the years, I’ve learned I don’t have the time or bandwidth to get pressed about things that don’t matter,” she said. “Yes, if I go out to dinner, there’s going to be a whole chaotic situation outside the restaurant. But I still want to go to dinner with my friends.”

“Life is short,” she continued. “Have adventures. Me locking myself away in my house for a lot of years—I’ll never get that time back. I’m more trusting now than I was six years ago.”
