The Chicago Bulls released two-way big man Adama Sanogo following an injury diagnosis that would shelve the former UConn star for approximately four weeks. The 6-foot-9 center has performed quite well for the Windy City Bulls, averaging 16.2 points and 9.9 rebounds in 11 appearances for Chicago’s G-League affiliate.
However, after it was deemed he’d miss at least a month of action, the Bulls decided to move on from the 23-year-old big man. Sanogo had dealt with an ailing left knee for much of the year, consistently popping up the Bulls’ injury report.
The Bulls have signed guard Jahmir Young to a two-way contract
Consequently, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported the Bulls agreed to a two-way contract with Jahmir Young on the heels of Sanogo’s departure. The former Maryland standout has impressed in 17 appearances for the Denver Nuggets’ G-League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold.

Young has averaged 22.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 7.9 assists, and 2.3 steals in 36.0 minutes per game. The 24-year-old has converted 46.4 percent of his field goals and 22.4 percent of his three-pointers. Young recently dropped a career-high 40 points in a 116-106 loss against the Capital City Go-Go on February 12. Young connected on 17-of-30 field goals and added 10 assists in the defeat.
The lefty point guard is a nifty scorer who specializes in getting downhill. Young does most of his damage in the mid-range and near the rim. He works best on-ball, utilizing picks and a quick crossover to get past his primary defender. The 6-foot-1 guard is also a more than willing passer who consistently makes the right read.
Young’s G-League success translates from an impressive five-year collegiate career. Young played three seasons for the Charlotte 49ers before transferring to Maryland. He averaged 16.7 points and 5.4 assists through 85 appearances (all starts) for Charlotte.
The former 49er star’s impact remained similar in the Big 10. Young averaged 15.8 points in his first season suiting up for the Terrapins before upping his scoring average to 20.4 points per game as a fifth-year senior. Young proved to be a well-rounded player, contributing 4.9 boards, 4.2 assists, and 1.3 steals in his final collegiate season.
The Bulls now have Emanuel Miller, a 6-foot-7 forward, E.J. Liddell, another 6-foot-7 forward, and the 6-foot-1 Young, filling up their three two-way contract slots. Chicago apparently felt it was necessary to add a guard to its final two-way slot after releasing DJ Steward and signing Miller in December.
Despite a deep guard rotation, Young will likely be given the chance to suit up for Chicago in the coming months. The Bulls have lost four consecutive games and will be experimenting with different lineups, as draft position now takes priority of competitiveness.
