REPORT: Yankees reach deal to bring back lefty reliever Tim Hill

Tim Hill is returning to the Yankees on a one-year, $2.85 million contract with a club option for 2026, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Tuesday.

Hill’s club option is for $3 million, with a $350,000 buyout, per Passan. The team hasn’t confirmed the report.

Hill was a key member of the Yankees’ bullpen in 2024, including for their postseason run. The Yankees signed the veteran left-hander in June after he was released by the White Sox, and Hill posted a 2.05 ERA in 44 innings over 35 relief appearances for New York.

Hill also had a 1.08 ERA in 10 appearances during the playoffs. He allowed only one earned run in his 8 1/3 innings pitched, and he made three scoreless appearances in the World Series against the Dodgers.

The 34-year-old sinkerballer, whose submarine arm slot is the lowest for any left-handed pitcher in the Major Leagues, has been a highly effective ground-ball specialist. Hill’s 68% ground-ball rate induced in 2024 was the highest in MLB among the 194 pitchers with 200-plus batted balls allowed.

Over seven big league seasons, Hill has a 3.99 ERA and 239 strikeouts in 322 1/3 innings pitched.
