Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James had seen his name in trade rumors over the past year.
In fact, earlier this month, Brian Windhorst of ESPN even revealed that there are some people around the NBA who wonder if James would push for a trade away from the Purple and Gold.
Considering that the Lakers are still far from championship contention and James just turning 40 years old, there remains the possibility-even if it’s remote-that the four-time NBA MVP would ask for a way out in order to contend for a title in the final remaining years of his professional career.
However, according to James himself, he’s no longer looking to move to a different team. The Lakers forward, who has never been traded in his 22-year NBA career, emphasized that the “plan” is for him to end his career in LA with the historic franchise. “That’s the plan,” James said of the Lakers, per ESPN.
“I would love for it to end here. That would be the plan. I came here to play the last stage of my career and to finish it off here.”
Interestingly, though, James admitted that he understands the business of basketball. Anything can happen, so a trade move is not out of the question. Still, the four-time champion expressed his belief that the Lakers will keep him.
“But I’m also not silly … [not] to know the business of basketball,” James shared. “But I think my relationship with this organization speaks for itself.
And hopefully I don’t got to go nowhere before my career is over.” For what it’s worth, LeBron James agreed to a two-year, $101.35 million extension with the Lakers during the past offseason.
His deal also has a no-trade clause, so he will have to waive that if LA wants to move him. That being said, it’s safe to assume James won’t be going anywhere.
