Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce was a little too honest when previewing his team’s matchup against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Raiders have lost seven games in a row and enter the Week 13 matchup at 2-9. The Chiefs have put together a 10-1 record – tied with the Detroit Lions for the best in the NFL – with their lone loss coming against the Buffalo Bills. “Let’s call a spade a spade,” Pierce said. “Best team in football against the worst team in football.”
It’s an interesting motivational tactic by Pierce but his point is that he wants to change the narrative heading into the matchup. “Let’s go out there and make it a dogfight. Let’s make it ugly, make it scrappy. It’s Black Friday,” Pierce said. “Create a little chaos and get back to Raider football and have some fun.”
Even with the additional context, the statement from Pierce did not still well with many fans. “Calling your own team the worst team in football is certainly a choice,” one fan said. Another chimed in: “Yall remember when we wanted this dude to be the head coach of the Raiders so bad and now he ruined the team even more lmao.”
Others joked that the Chiefs are not the best team in football, believing that designation should belong to the Bills or Lions. “Can we get a community notes here?” a fan said. “The Detroit Lions are the best team in football.” The spread reflects a lopsided matchup. The Chiefs are a 12.5-point favorite for the game, per ESPN BET, one of the largest in the NFL this season.
