Taylor Swift has been on quite a run the last few years, a level of dominance that few music stars have ever displayed. And, truthfully, she’s been at or near the top of the game for over fifteen years now, winning her first Grammy for Album of the Year fifteen years ago.
It would be easy to make an argument that she is the biggest pop star of the 21st century. But, music journalism giant Billboard disagrees!
Currently, Billboard is naming the top 25 pop stars of the 21st century so far. After revealing number 25 through number 3, only Taylor Swift and Beyonce were left. That makes sense, as they’ve definitely been the biggest stars in all of music since 2000.
I was pretty surprised, and I’m sure others were, too, when Swift was named the second-biggest pop star, instead of topping the list.
Swift has four Grammy Album of the Year awards, the most of any artists, and has a whopping 14 number-one albums in the last sixteen years.
Her Eras Tour, which started in the Spring of 2023 and is set to wrap up this weekend in Vancouver, smashed practically every record imaginable for tours and was an international cultural phenomenon. Certainly, she’s the biggest pop star in the world right now.
But, it’s for the entire century so far, and Beyonce certainly has a fantastic argument as well. She has 32 total Grammy’s, the most all-time, and has sold over 200 million records. Plus, she’s been around for longer than Swift has, getting her start with Destiny’s Child, one of the biggest girl groups of the early 2000’s.
Many of Taylor Swift’s diehard fans on Twitter are up in arms about the decision.
I’m sure Taylor Swift herself isn’t too bothered by it, though. At this point, i’m sure she’s ready to finish up her tour, relax, and spend the holidays with her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
