Frank makes Pochettino admission during honest assessment of Tottenham start

Thomas Frank has admitted he remains in awe of the legacy Mauricio Pochettino left behind at Tottenham and there are clear similarities between the starts Spurs made under both head coaches

Thomas Frank is convinced his Tottenham side are only going to get better – just as Spurs did under Mauricio Pochettino.

After 13 matches in all competitions, the Dane currently boasts an identical record to the Argentine (six wins, four draws and three losses including the Super Cup penalty shootout defeat to PSG).

Frank makes no secret of the fact he would love to mirror the achievements of the ex-Tottenham boss, fondly remembered as one of the best coaches in the club’s illustrious history.

When asked if Pochettino’s time at Tottenham is living proof good things aren’t built overnight, Frank said: “Yeah, it’s not only that example but I think it’s a good example because of course Pochettino is a legend here.

“What he built, what he was part of achieving, I think it is definitely a spell I looked at when I was not here and of course, I was very aware of when I got offered the job. I always looked at that and thought wow, what he built, what they built together there was quite unique and quite impressive.

“I think any success in football history is more or less from clubs and teams that had the same head coach or manager for a long spell. I am relatively happy with where we are, I would say relatively happy because I always want more. I just know there is more to come.”

Tottenham will once again be without injured captain Cristian Romero (adductor), even though their indispensable captain is now on the comeback trail. Destiny Udogie (knee) and Dominic Solanke (ankle) also remain absent.

Frank said of the trio: “Cuti just walked out on the grass running with some of the performance guys, so it’s positive, he’s progressing. Still no timeframe but I don’t expect it to be a longer one.

“Destiny is not on the grass yet, but still progressing, so again, not a longer one. “With Dominic it’s positive, he’s taking steps in the right direction every day.”

Randal Kolo Muani is pushing for his first Tottenham star after impressing from the bench against Monaco. Frank also explained why midfielder Pape Matar Sarr isn’t being picked – even though Spurs have a 75 per cent win ratio in the Premier League this season when he’s in their starting XI.

When asked if Sarr has been battling a fitness issue: “There’s nothing wrong with him. It’s just competition as other players have done well. “In general, I’m happy with Pape.

“I’ve said that before, he was one of the players that impressed me the most in the beginning of the season, he’s a very good player.”
