The\u00a0New York Mets<\/a>\u00a0will cap off their four-game series against the\u00a0Philadelphia Phillies<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday night before returning home to face off against the red-hot\u00a0Texas Rangers<\/a>\u00a0in a three-game weekend series.<\/p>\n

For the Mets, they have dropped the first three games of their series against the Phillies as they have been outscored 21-6.<\/p>\n

With these losses, New York\u2019s losing streak currently stands at five games and they have dropped seven of their last 10 contests.<\/p>\n

Because of this, the Mets have seen their hopes of winning the NL East diminish as they now sit 10 games behind the Phillies for the division lead.<\/p>\n

New York also holds the final NL Wild Card spot by only two games over both the\u00a0San Francisco Giants<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Cincinnati Reds<\/a>\u00a0and if they are unable to break out of their slump, they could fall outside of the playoff picture.<\/p>\n

Rob Parker Delivers Harsh Verdict on Mets\u2019 Playoff Chances<\/h2>\n

On Thursday,\u00a0MLB<\/a>\u00a0Network\u2019s Rob Parker gave his thoughts on the Mets\u2019 playoff chances, and he did not hold back.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Mets are absolutely done. They\u2019re not making the playoffs,\u201d Parker said.<\/p>\n

This was a harsh statement by Parker but one that could become a reality for the Mets if they are unable to turn things around heading into the final few weeks of the regular season.<\/p>\n

Of course, New York had high expectations entering the season, especially after signing\u00a0Juan Soto<\/a>\u00a0in free agency, but they have not been able to put everything together.<\/p>\n

This comes despite Soto\u2019s great season along with solid seasons from\u00a0Pete Alonso<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Francisco Lindor<\/a>.<\/p>\n

New York\u2019s biggest issue has been their pitching staff, especially during their losing skid, and they are also without their ace pitcher Kodai Senga who was sent to Triple-A due to his struggles since the beginning of July.<\/p>\n

Despite this, Parker\u2019s statement of the Mets being done and not making the playoff this season could be a little too premature as they do hold a two-game lead for the final Wild Card spot.<\/p>\n

New York also holds the tiebreaker over the Giants, which is good news for them if their struggles continue, though they do not hold the tiebreaker over the Reds.<\/p>\n

Either way, it would not be a complete surprise to see the Mets fall out of the final Wild Card spot, especially with them set to face the Rangers,\u00a0San Diego Padres<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Chicago Cubs<\/a>\u00a0in three of their next four series.<\/p>\n
