Things were chippy between the\u00a0Kansas City Chiefs<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Los Angeles Chargers<\/a>\u00a0during their Week 1 matchup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It came to a head between Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Chargers defensive tackle Teair Tart midway through the third quarter. After Kelce blocked Tart on a running play, Tart swung and hit Kelce directly in the head. However, Tart was not ejected from the game, just flagged for a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t understand that rule,\u201d Reid told the media on Monday. \u201cI guess it\u2019s open-handed, or whatever. I don\u2019t know what their decision was on that, but he (Kelce) definitely got hit in the head pretty hard, whether it was an open-fist or a closed-fist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reid was then asked if he will reach out to the NFL for further clarification on the rule.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s the open-handed, closed-handed deal,\u201d Reid said. \u201cI\u2019m not sure how you determine which hurts more. I\u2019ll work that out with the league. I can\u2019t get into all that, I don\u2019t have enough money to do all that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reid is clearly frustrated with the rule, but in typical fashion he took the high road and didn\u2019t go on a tirade about it. Tart was able to remain in the game because he hit Kelce with an open hand rather than a closed fist.<\/p>\n

That rule definitely does not line up with the league\u2019s stance on blows to the head. Regardless of whether Tart used an open hand or closed fist, a purposeful strike to the head with force should be grounds for ejection.<\/p>\n

To add insult to injury for the Chiefs<\/a>, Tart went on to bat two passes down later in the game, one of which came during a crucial two-point conversion try. Tart will certainly be fined for his actions, but based off his Instagram post following the game, he doesn\u2019t seem very remorseful over his actions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
