On Sunday, the Yankees stayed hot, winning their fourth series in a row against a division rival, the Toronto Blue Jays.<\/p>\n

Despite their hot streak, the former AL champions are remaining patient with first baseman Paul Goldschmidt as he gets his groove back from a low-grade knee sprain suffered last month.<\/p>\n

Goldschmidt stays as emergency substitute in win over Blue Jays<\/h2>\n

Before the Yankees clinched the weekend series with a 3-1 win over the Blue Jays, manager Aaron Boone said Paul Goldschmidt will remain limited to an emergency role as he recovers from last month’s knee injury, according to Dan Martin of the New York Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Although Goldschmidt has dodged being placed on the injured list since suffering the knee sprain on Aug. 12, his hitting stats have declined, and the Yankees decided to limit the former MVP’s playing time until further notice.<\/p>\n

Goldschmidt has tallied just four extra-base hits in his 15 games since coming back from the injury scare.<\/p>\n

Martin also wrote that “Goldschmidt has since undergone more tests on the knee, although Boone said the Yankees still don’t believe the injury is serious.”<\/p>\n

The Yankees don’t particularly need Goldschmidt, as New York’s gone 16-7 since his injury. 26-year-old Ben Rice has been the usual replacement at first base.<\/p>\n
