KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was injured just three plays into the season.<\/p>\n

Worthy suffered a shoulder injury after colliding with tight end Travis Kelce on a drag route on the third play of Friday night\u2019s season-opening game between the Chiefs and Chargers.<\/p>\n

The Chiefs said Worthy was questionable to return after he walked into the locker room under his own power following a three-and-out opening drive. In the second quarter, Kansas City ruled him out for the game.<\/p>\n

Chiefs trainers were attending to his shoulder on the sideline after the play. The YouTube broadcast said Worthy was heading the X-ray room.<\/p>\n

Head coach Andy Reid said postgame the team would know more about the extent of the injury once Worthy gets an MRI on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The former first-round pick out of Texas was expected to shoulder a significant portion of the Chiefs receiving load with wide receiver Rashee Rice suspended for six games to begin the season.<\/p>\n

Rice suffered a friendly-fire injury against the Chargers last season when quarterback Patrick Mahomes dove into his knee attempting to tackle a Chargers defender who had intercepted a pass.<\/p>\n
