The\u00a0Lakers\u00a0seem to have fast-tracked their timeline with a\u00a0rebuild\u00a0around\u00a0Luka Doncic\u00a0after\u00a0LeBron James\u00a0made his\u00a0intentions clear\u00a0for what could be the final season of his NBA career.<\/p>\n

Instead of initiating a patient rebuild around Doncic, the Lakers are making moves to build a team that can contend for the championship immediately.<\/p>\n

Hence, they added\u00a0strong pieces\u00a0like\u00a0Marcus Smart\u00a0and\u00a0Deandre Ayton\u00a0to their roster, who have now significantly changed the way the Lakers looked at the end of last season.<\/p>\n

But there is still some anticipation of movement in the roster midway through the season.<\/p>\n

On the\u00a0latest episode of the ‘Lakers Nation’ podcast,\u00a0Trevor Lane spoke about how the Lakers plan to\u00a0be\u00a0“aggressive”\u00a0before the February trade deadline.<\/p>\n

\u201cLakers sources have confirmed to me that the team intends to be aggressive heading towards February\u2019s trade deadline. They want to get a look at things early on this season, see what\u2019s what, and go from there. If the right move is available, they will make it\u2026 The goal for the season is to win a championship with LeBron James and Luka Doncic.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

This reported strategy is something that fans believed they had been hearing from Pelinka for a while, and he rarely delivered (before Luka Doncic). They went on\u00a0social media\u00a0and voiced their displeasure with hearing the same thing every year.<\/p>\n

“Ain\u2019t believing it till I see it.”<\/em><\/p>\n

“Same story every year. And then, when nothing happens, the \u201cwe\u2019ll be aggressive in the summer\u201d starts. It\u2019s a vicious cycle. Don\u2019t believe until something actually happens on the trade front. #lakers”<\/em><\/p>\n

“They\u2019ve said this for the last 5 years lol.”<\/em><\/p>\n

“Which, of course, is what they say every year. Personally, if it can be done, I prefer they recruit or trade at the beginning of the season so the team doesn’t have to gel on the fly. But this is the Lakers, so…”<\/em><\/p>\n

The Lakers have filled their roster for the season and plan to take this unit into the first half of the season and look to make changes on the go.<\/p>\n

Therefore, this likely means that the\u00a0Andrew Wiggins\u00a0rumors\u00a0should be\u00a0on hold\u00a0until the first few weeks of the season.<\/p>\n

It seems like fans are attributing this strategy to the Lakers’ general manager,\u00a0Rob Pelinka, whose future with the Lakers came into question upon the change in ownership. But a recent\u00a0report\u00a0claimed that as long as Jeanie Buss is in place as governor of the Lakers, Pelinka’s job is not expected to be at risk.<\/p>\n
