According to\u00a0Tom Pelissero<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0NFL Network<\/em>, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived controversial safety\u00a0Shilo Sanders<\/strong>, following the preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills. Sanders was ejected from the game following throwing a punch at the Bills\u2019 tight end\u00a0Zach Davidson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Defensive back Shilo Sanders was competing for a depth role at safety behind\u00a0Antoine Winfield Jr., with\u00a0Kaevon Merriweather,\u00a0Rashad Wisdom, and\u00a0Will Brooks\u00a0also listed as backups. However, Sanders\u2019 recent ejection may have sped up the team\u2019s decision-making process. Earlier, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach\u00a0Todd Bowles\u00a0addressed the matter postgame, stating:<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t throw punches in this league. It\u2019s inexcusable. They\u2019re going to catch you every time. You have to grow from that.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Bucs signed Shilo Sanders as a free agent after failing to draft him at the 2025 NFL Annual Draft as one of the thirteen rookies.\u00a0Ahead of the incident, Sanders had a good shot at making the squad. He had a fair share of ups and downs; however, new signings and inconsistencies have also been a factor in his waiver.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, his performance might be good enough for another team. His agents,\u00a0Drew Rosenhaus<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Robert Bailey,<\/strong>\u00a0said the same. They also added that they are \u201choping he gets claimed on waivers.<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n

Jordan Schultz backs Shilo Sanders to be picked up somewhere<\/h2>\n

All is not lost for Shilo Sanders yet, or so\u00a0Jordan Schultz<\/strong>\u00a0thinks. In the wake of the waiver announcement, the analyst tweeted that Sanders might be selected by some other team. Schultz\u2019s deduction is based on the fact that there are a few clubs where the safety position is scarce. He tweeted:<\/p>\n

The Washington Commanders and the Kansas City Chiefs were identified by\u00a0Mike Clay<\/strong>\u00a0of ESPN as having the shakiest safety unit in the league. In his article, Clay noted that the Commanders are very shaky following the departure of\u00a0Jeremy Chinn<\/strong>, who logged the most snaps in Washington\u2019s secondary last season.<\/p>\n

The Commanders will be starting with\u00a0Will Harris<\/strong>, paired with\u00a0Quan Martin<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Percy Butler<\/strong>\u00a0in the mix as a competition. However, none of the three has earned a strong Pro Football Focus grade in recent years, and Washington chose not to address the position in April\u2019s draft. They could be a good option for Sanders.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Jordan Schultz had blasted the NFL referees for ejecting Shilo Sanders. Schultz had claimed that the punch wasn\u2019t enough to warrant an ejection.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Shilo\u2019s brother,\u00a0Shedeur Sander<\/strong>s,\u00a0is\u00a0also fighting for a roster spot. The Colorado Buffaloes quarterback was drafted in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns and joined a tight quarterback room. Shedeur\u00a0had a miserable day\u00a0in his preseason finale as well.<\/p>\n

Shedeur Sanders, after a good outing against the Carolina Panthers, was sidelined in Week 2 of the preseason.
