The Dodgers’ offense disappeared for a second straight game as the Padres won 5-1 and fans directed their disgust at LA’s manager.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Fans were upset when the\u00a0Los Angeles Dodgers\u00a0wasted\u00a0Blake Snell\u2019s strong start\u00a0with a 2-1 loss to the\u00a0San Diego Padres\u00a0in the series opener. But after a second straight offensive no-show in Saturday\u2019s humbling 5-1 defeat, Dodgers fans were calling for\u00a0Dave Roberts’ job.<\/p>\n

San Diego starter\u00a0Nestor Cortes\u00a0dominated the Dodgers, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The eighth-year veteran earned his second win of the season, allowing just one hit and no walks with three strikeouts over six scoreless innings.<\/p>\n

Cortes managed to top Yu Darvish\u2019s spectacular performance in Friday’s game as the\u00a0Padres\u2019 pitchers made history. Cortes and Darvish held the Dodgers to one or fewer hits through six innings in back-to-back games for the first time since 1958.<\/p>\n

Following the game, Roberts appeared\u00a0at a loss\u00a0trying to explain the Dodgers\u2019 disappearing offense. \u201cIt\u2019s not a lack of talent. It\u2019s certainly not a lack of trying. But we\u2019ve gotta do more,\u201d LA\u2019s manager said, per SportsNet LA.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to take what the pitcher gives you and try to create something. You can\u2019t always go for that big swing and you gotta kinda shorten up and\u2026 we do it at times but just collectively I just don\u2019t see us doing that collectively,\u201d Roberts offered.<\/p>\n

The problem was, Cortes didn\u2019t give Los Angeles much of anything. The Dodgers were held to just one run for the second straight game. And rookie Alex Freeland has accounted for all of LA\u2019s scoring in the series so far. One night after\u00a0hitting his first career home run, Freeland went deep again while pinch-hitting in the eighth inning.<\/p>\n

Miguel Rojas got the Dodgers\u2019 only other hit in the game when he broke up Cortes\u2019 no-hit bid in the sixth.<\/p>\n

San Diego moved into sole possession of first place in the NL West with Saturday\u2019s win. It\u2019s the latest in a season the\u00a0Padres have led the division since 2010. And fans were not pleased with LA\u2019s performance, venting their frustration on Roberts.<\/p>\n
