The Los Angeles Dodgers are trying to regain the lead in the NL West that they once held. At one point, the Dodgers were nine games ahead of the San Diego Padres. However, just last week, they lost that lead before reclaiming it. The bullpen has been struggling significantly, and\u00a0there is little faith it can turn things around quickly.
\n\u201cWhat happened was the Dodgers\u2019 belief in the recovering health of their bullpen. And, um, yeah, unless you want to bring Bobby Miller up from Oklahoma City to close games (not a bad idea, eh?), it\u2019s not getting fixed anytime soon,\u201d Los Angeles Times\u2019 Bill Plaschke wrote.<\/em><\/p>\n

The bullpen has faced some costly injuries recently, including the big addition from the trade deadline, Brock Stewart.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Los Angeles Dodgers are placing right-hander Brock Stewart on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation. Stewart has only made four appearances for LA, allowing two runs in 3.2 innings thus far,\u201d\u00a0SI\u2019s Gabe Smallson wrote.
\nWhile the bullpen works on getting healthy, one of the Dodgers\u2019 starters is also sidelined. Roki Sasaki hasn\u2019t pitched since May.<\/p>\n

\u201cSasaki landed on the injured list May 13 with right shoulder impingement and was transferred to the 60-day IL in June. He had a rough time in MLB before his injury, posting a 4.72 ERA through 34.1 innings pitched with 24 strikeouts,\u201d SI\u2019s Aaron Coloma wrote.
\nSasaki was a major free-agent signing for the Dodgers. However, a mental block could keep him from pitching for the Dodgers this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s always a mental component when you\u2019re hurt,\u201d\u00a0pitching coach Mark Prior said.\u00a0\u201cand you\u2019re always wondering, \u2018Am I going to feel something at that moment?\u2019 \u2026 There is a little bit of a mental barrier that they all need to get through.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Sasaki has loads of potential, or the Dodgers wouldn\u2019t have signed him. However, if he can\u2019t get out of his own head and return to form after the injury, he may never get the call back up. The Dodgers need to enter the postseason healthy, but it is ultimately up to Sasaki if he wants to get that call.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
