The\u00a0Los Angeles Lakers\u00a0have built one of the most intriguing rosters in the league this offseason, but their potential 2025\u201326 rotation is already drawing skepticism.<\/p>\n

On paper, the team\u2019s projected starting lineup looks formidable:\u00a0Luka Doncic\u00a0running point,\u00a0Austin Reaves\u00a0at shooting guard,\u00a0Rui Hachimura\u00a0sliding into the small forward slot,\u00a0LeBron James\u00a0at power forward, and\u00a0Deandre Ayton\u00a0anchoring the middle.<\/p>\n

The second unit features\u00a0Gabe Vincent,\u00a0Marcus Smart,\u00a0Jake LaRavia,\u00a0Jarred Vanderbilt, and\u00a0Jaxson Hayes, while\u00a0Bronny James,\u00a0Dalton Knecht,\u00a0Maxi Kleber, Adou Thiero, and the Lakers\u2019 two-way players round out the depth chart.<\/p>\n

Yet, as exciting as the star power looks, NBA fans aren\u2019t convinced this rotation will work as smoothly as the front office hopes.<\/p>\n

The biggest concern comes on the defensive end. Social media was quick to point out that a Doncic\u2013Reaves backcourt could leave the Lakers vulnerable against elite guard play.<\/p>\n

One fan joked,\u00a0\u201clmao do we plan on allowing other teams to score 180 points w that starting lineup.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

That critique echoes long-standing questions about Luka\u2019s defensive commitment and Reaves\u2019 struggles to contain quicker guards. While Ayton is a capable rim protector, he isn\u2019t considered elite defensively, meaning the Lakers could be leaning heavily on LeBron and Rui to plug holes.<\/p>\n

Others questioned the balance of the roster. Dalton Knecht, the Lakers\u2019 2024 lottery pick, is already viewed by many fans as one of the better scoring options on the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cDalton Knecht is probably the 7th or 8th best player on the team when given the minutes,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0one comment read, suggesting the rookie could end up forcing his way into a bigger role.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also debate about Rui Hachimura\u2019s fit in the starting five, with fans preferring Jarred Vanderbilt to bring defensive energy from the jump.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI prefer Vando starting and Rui off the bench,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>wrote another fan, highlighting the need for more balance between offense and defense.<\/p>\n

Even the second unit has its share of doubts. While Marcus Smart brings grit, leadership, and defensive toughness, some fans believe he should start over Reaves to allow Doncic to dominate the ball more freely.<\/p>\n

\u201cSwitch Smart and Reaves tbh so Luka can cook and second unit has a consistent scorer,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0one fan suggested.<\/p>\n

Without that adjustment, the bench unit could lack firepower, as many pointed out:\u00a0\u201c2nd unit going to struggle to score the rock.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The Lakers\u2019 depth at center is another sticking point. Beyond Ayton, the options are limited, and Jaxson Hayes has yet to prove he can be a reliable rotation player on a playoff-caliber team.<\/p>\n

\u201cLol they cooked at center position still,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>a fan bluntly observed.<\/p>\n

For all the criticism, one thing is clear: expectations are sky-high. With\u00a0Luka Doncic locked in for three more years\u00a0and LeBron still capable of producing at an elite level, fans demand a rotation that can compete for a championship.<\/p>\n

Whether the Lakers stick with their projected lineup or make adjustments as the season unfolds, the scrutiny will be relentless.
