Taylor Swift is still set to make her directorial debut of a feature film in the near future\u2014one written by her. Here\u2019s the truth behind rumors a second screenwriter has been brought in.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n

\u2018Tis the damn season for\u00a0Taylor Swift\u00a0to turn her sights on the big screen.<\/em><\/p>\n

Three years after it was announced the Grammy winner would be\u00a0making her feature film directorial debut\u00a0with Searchlight Pictures on a feature film she wrote,\u00a0rumors\u00a0began to crop up that screenwriter\u00a0Alice Birch\u00a0had been brought onto the project.<\/p>\n

A source close to production tells E! News, however, that the rumors are not true and there is still only one screenwriter on the project: Taylor herself.<\/p>\n

Otherwise, details on the project have remained scarce since the 2022 announcement of the project. At the time, Searchlight Presidents\u00a0David Greenbaum<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Matthew Greenfield\u00a0<\/strong>shared their excitement over the collaboration.<\/p>\n

“Taylor is a once in a generation artist and storyteller,” they said in a press release. “It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey.”<\/em><\/p>\n

While the project marks Taylor\u2019s feature film directorial debut, she is no stranger to working on movies and directing projects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

In addition to roles in\u00a0Valentine\u2019s Day\u00a0and\u00a0The Giver, the 35-year-old has starred in most of her music videos and has even directed a few over the years\u2014including\u00a02021\u2019s\u00a0All Too Well: The Short Film.<\/p>\n

The project\u2014starring\u00a0Sadie Sink\u00a0and\u00a0Dylan O\u2019Brien\u2014was a 15-minute piece which brought to life the demise of the relationship detailed in Taylor\u2019s song \u201cAll Too Well,\u201d which is largely understood to be about her history with\u00a0Jake Gyllenhaal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Following the short film\u2019s\u00a0screening at the Tribeca Film Festival\u00a0in June 2022, Taylor reflected on how she approached the creative project.<\/p>\n

“I think I gave myself permission to completely make that jump into making a narrative short film because this is not a music video; we approached everything differently,” she explained. “You know, in shooting on 35 millimeter and all the decisions that were made to create these characters and dive into this world.”<\/em><\/p>\n

At the time, the\u00a0Midnights\u00a0<\/em>artist also teased setting her sights on longer projects (the announcement of her feature film would come six months later).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

“It would be so fantastic to write and direct something, you know, a feature,” she added during the talkback. “I don’t see it being bigger in terms of scale. I loved making a film that was so intimate and with a crew that was relatively small and just a really solid crew of people that I trusted.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Taylor also received nothing but compliments from the short film\u2019s star Dylan, who praised her directorial prowess.<\/p>\n

“Her ability to just be like, \u2018Go,’ is so confident, so brave,\u201d he explained. \u201cYou can be talented and you can have great taste\u2014of which all these things she possesses, assembling the crew and knowing exactly what she wanted to do and who she wanted to get\u2014but the onset ability to operate, the freedom just to create that environment. That is special.”<\/em><\/p>\n
