{"id":85117,"date":"2025-08-02T09:01:24","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T09:01:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new365.azontree.com\/?p=85117"},"modified":"2025-08-02T09:01:24","modified_gmt":"2025-08-02T09:01:24","slug":"southeast-notes-rozier-heat-hornets-wizards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new365.azontree.com\/?p=85117","title":{"rendered":"Southeast Notes: Rozier, Heat, Hornets, Wizards"},"content":{"rendered":"<article id=\"post-441596\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/heatnation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/USATSI_22952463_168403908_lowres-e1726093998706.jpg\" alt=\"Report: Heat couldn't agree that Marcus Smart was clear upgrade over Terry  Rozier - Heat Nation\" \/>July 31st 2025 at 8:15pm CST by Earnest Marshall<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>When Jake Fischer recently reported that the <strong>Heat<\/strong> and <strong>Wizards<\/strong> held trade talks about guards <strong>Terry Rozier<\/strong> and <strong>Marcus Smart<\/strong>, he wrote that the two sides could not come to an agreement as Miami \u201ccould not reach an organizational consensus on whether such a trade was a clear upgrade.\u201d Smart was ultimately bought out and ended up with the Lakers.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald confirms that the two Southeast teams did indeed engage with one another about a possible deal and notes that it would have made sense on paper given Smart\u2019s expiring salary ($21.6MM) is cheaper than Rozier\u2019s ($26.6MM). However, Chiang clarifies that the primary reason such a trade did not occur was primarily due to the fact that Miami didn\u2019t want to attach the necessary draft capital it would have taken to complete such a deal.<\/p>\n<p>The Heat remain open to trade talks surrounding Rozier, but they have been hesitant to include draft picks or sacrifice future flexibility simply to get off his expiring contract.<\/p>\n<p>We have more from the Southeast Division:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A federal investigation was launched early last year regarding game-worn <strong>Heat<\/strong> gear that was stolen from the team\u2019s facilities, Chiang writes in another post. The gear includes that from the likes of <strong>Dwyane Wade<\/strong>, <strong>Shaquille O\u2019Neal<\/strong> and <strong>LeBron James<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Look for <strong>Mason Plumlee<\/strong> to start at center for the <strong>Hornets<\/strong> in a year where his competition looks to be rookie <strong>Ryan Kalkbrenner<\/strong> and former two-way big <strong>Moussa Diabate<\/strong>, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer writes. Plumlee started for the Hornets during <strong>Mark Williams<\/strong>\u2018 rookie season before being traded to the Clippers. Boone suggests a similar situation could play out in 2025\/26, with Plumlee starting as the man in the middle before Kalkbrenner ultimately takes over.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Wizards<\/strong> will keep their 2026 first-round pick if it ends up in the top eight of the draft.
