The Kansas City Chiefs are once again seeing some players go at it after the whistle. However, this time it was between two players you wouldn\u2019t expect.\u00a0 Full details are below.<\/p>\n

It may have been the heat, or perhaps the intensity of the third day of pads-on practice that led to the first scuffle in the Kansas City Chiefs training camp:<\/p>\n

Rookie offensive lineman Josh Simmons starred in an altercation with fellow rookie defensive end Ashton Gillotte Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

The left tackle and the pass rusher participated in a 9-on-7 period repetition, which ended in Simmons punching Gillotte and the latter removing Simmons\u2019 helmet, Chiefs reporter Nate Taylor shared on X.<\/p>\n

Seeing fights during training camp is common, especially when it involves two teammates. Simmons is one of the most intriguing Chiefs\u2019 additions of the 2025 offseason after he was selected with the No. 32 overall pick in April\u2019s draft.<\/p>\n

The expectations are high for the former Ohio State star now that he\u2019ll have the responsibility of protecting Patrick Mahomes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The expectations are high for the former Ohio State star now that he\u2019ll have the responsibility of protecting Patrick Mahomes.<\/p>\n

Back in March,\u00a0an anonymous scout slammed Simmons\u00a0for his personality, saying that the 22-year-old\u2019s mentality was an issue and he had no sense of urgency. While he was criticized for his ability, too, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach was over the moon after the team landed with the final pick of the first round. Simmons\u2019 draft stock had taken a hit after a season-ending injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think everyone knows that when he\u2019s healthy and with the tape he had early on last year before the injury, it puts him in the upper echelon of what he could be as a future starter and difference-maker at left tackle,\u201d Veach\u00a0said. \u201cHad it not been for that injury, he\u2019s probably not there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Training camp fights are common nowadays, as everybody has something to prove to teammates, coaches and executives. Simmons dealt with injuries during his final season in college and now is trying to leave that in the past.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mahomes was another Chief ecstatic with Simmons\u2019 ability not only to play but to learn quickly. On Tuesday, Mahomes lauded Simmons\u2019 work ethic, confirming that he was being tested with every drill.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s done a great job with that and then learning,\u201d Mahomes said. \u201cHe\u2019s getting tested every single day with Spags and being able to pick up blitzes and do all different kind of stuff as well as going against some great pass rushing, so I\u2019m excited for the future that he has.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simmons and Gillotte aren\u2019t expected to face any serious punishment for their practice scuffle. It\u2019s just part of the atmosphere in training camp as two rookies battle to secure a place on an NFL roster.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
