The Kansas City Chiefs are deep at the cornerback position, and that could be enough reason to entertain trade offers for some of their players if the opportunity arises.<\/p>\n
One such player, Chiefs corner\u00a0Joshua Williams, could make a fitting target for a noteworthy AFC foe.<\/p>\n
Former Chiefs star\u00a0Tyreek Hill\u00a0and the Miami Dolphins are in need CB help after losing\u00a0Kader Kohou\u00a0to a season-ending knee injury. ESPN\u2019s Seth Walder named Williams as an option in a\u00a0supposed \u201cwin-win\u201d trade scenario.<\/p>\n
Walder argues the Dolphins were already thin before Kohou went down, calling the situation \u201cbleak\u201d and saying the group \u201cleaves plenty to be desired.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chiefs get:<\/strong><\/p>\n Dolphins get:<\/strong><\/p>\n For the Chiefs, it is a matter of making use of their depth, with Walder noting the presence of\u00a0Jaylen Watson,\u00a0Kristian Fulton, and\u00a0Trent McDuffie.<\/p>\n \u201cWilliams, who is scheduled to make $3.2 million this year, was even left off ESPN\u2019s 53-man roster projection at the start of training camp,\u201d Walder wrote on July 30. \u201cWilliams does have some encouraging numbers over his first three seasons. Across 769 coverage snaps, he has allowed 0.9 yards per snap \u2014 better than average \u2014 and 0.6 over the past two years, albeit in a small sample.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cMiami looks more like a team in flux than a franchise looking to add talent before the season. But given the state of the Dolphins\u2019 cornerback group, a low-risk maneuver like this would make sense.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The Chiefs, though, are just a rash of injuries from being in a similar spot as the Dolphins.<\/p>\n That could be enough reason to hold onto Williams, who could provide value as soon as this season, rather than trade him for a pick that would not, unless it was used in another deal.<\/p>\n Another reason the Chiefs may want to hold onto Williams is that he can play on the perimeter, which is noteworthy as they look to move McDuffie inside more this coming season. The Chiefs need options they can trust when that happens.<\/p>\n For what it is worth, McDuffie is looking forward to the return to his previous form.<\/p>\n \u201cMy favorite story is when I say, \u2018Every time I get a blitz, I start smiling,\u2019\u201d\u00a0McDuffie told Chiefs reporter Matt McMullen\u00a0in comments shared on July 29. \u201cI feel like I really just gotta focus in on what it means to be a blitzer, really, in this defense. Yeah, it gets to the quarterback. But like I always tell everybody, I know what it\u2019s like to be on an island. I know what it\u2019s like when it\u2019s Cover 0, and everybody blitzing, and the quarterback knows it.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s really getting back to the quarterback, right, to help my buddies out on the back end. So, this year I\u2019m looking forward to it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The Chiefs are going to be putting their corners on islands with their aggressiveness. They ranked\u00a0fourth in blitz rate\u00a0during the 2024 regular season, per Pro Football Reference. They have to be solid on the back end.
