As the New York Yankees continue to navigate their next trade deadline moves, one of their division rivals got stronger on Tuesday. The Toronto Blue Jays received some bullpen help from within the AL East.<\/p>\n
The Baltimore Orioles traded Seranthony Dominguez north of the border in exchange for the Jays’ No. 10 prospect, Juaron Watts-Brown. When the move became official, a former Yankees reliever was revealed to be a roster casualty.<\/p>\n
Chad Green was designated for assignment to make room for Dominguez, and oh boy was it long overdue before he succumbed to his fate. The right-hander had a 4.85 ERA, 6.21 FIP and 1.41 WHIP across 42 2\/3 innings this year on the division-leading Jays.<\/p>\n
If they were going to make one singular upgrade at the deadline, it would have been this one. There was no way the division leaders could have continued on with this production from what was supposed to be a key bullpen piece. Green logged a 3.21 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 53 1\/3 innings last year, which would’ve been incredibly valuable this time around.<\/p>\n\n

Former Yankee Chad Green gets DFA’d by Blue Jays after trade with Orioles<\/h2>\n
Green will more than likely clear waivers, but don’t count on the Yankees eyeing a reunion. They have a mess of a bullpen at the moment and are looking to upgrade from about 4-5 versions of Green they currently roster.<\/p>\n
The bigger story here is that the Jays got stronger with Dominguez, who has handled a good amount of high-leverage in Baltimore this season. His 3.24 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 41 2\/3 innings will improve Toronto’s middling bullpen (3.94 ERA, 17th in MLB).<\/p>\n
If it’s any consolation, they surrendered what looks to be a promising prospect in the deal for two months of the left-handed reliever.<\/p>\n\n
Whether or not that turns out to be true, the Yankees’ chances of chasing down the AL East crown just got that much more difficult. In six innings against New York, Dominguez has a 0.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP, allowing just four hits and two walks.<\/p>\n
As for Green, he could end up with a deadline seller looking to add bodies after a number of teams clear roster space in the coming days.
