I often wonder how my parents would behave if\u2014in some bizarre universe\u2014I ever became famous. Truth be told, they probably wouldn\u2019t be any different than they are now.<\/p>\n

My dad would be telling strangers about my personal life\u2014unprompted\u2014in the line at the grocery store, and my mom would be prepared to square up on anybody who talked shit about me. That said, I can\u2019t blame\u00a0Matty Healy<\/strong>\u2018s mom,\u00a0Denise Welch<\/strong>, for\u00a0publicly defending her son\u00a0when asked about\u00a0Taylor Swift\u2014<\/strong>even if he\u2019s likely hanging his head this morning.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the\u00a0Loose Women<\/em>\u00a0panelist appeared as a guest on\u00a0Watch What Happens Live<\/em>\u00a0alongside the\u00a0Real Housewives of Orange County<\/em>\u2018s\u00a0Shannon Beador<\/strong>. Because\u00a0Andy Cohen<\/strong>\u00a0is\u2026well, Andy Cohen, it was inevitable that Welch was asked about Healy\u2019s former girlfriend and the music he\u2019s inspired\u2014most recently,\u00a0The Tortured Poets Department<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, on pain of death, can I talk about that episode, but not being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost,\u201d she replied, to a chorus of audible gasps in the clubhouse. \u201cNot that I have anything against her at all,\u201d Welch went on. \u201cIt was just\u2014it was tricky.\u201d Tricky seems like an understatement. Also, Welch\u2019s statement begs a question: were Healy and Swift close to marriage or secretly engaged? The mention of being someone\u2019s mother-in-law seems a reach if not, no?<\/em><\/p>\n

She then continued: \u201cShe\u2014listen, you\u2019re not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it.\u201d While \u201cnot allowed to say anything\u201d sounds like a thinly-veiled hint at an NDA (or the fear of facing the ire of Swifties everywhere), I\u2019ll note Healy has at least commented on the album before.<\/p>\n

After its release in 2024, for example, Healy\u00a0said he hadn\u2019t listened to it\u00a0but was \u201csure it\u2019s good.\u201d Certain sleuths also think he\u2019s\u00a0hinted at it\u00a0in other appearances, but who\u2019s to say for sure? The guy always seems like he\u2019s doing a bit.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is very happy with his amazing fianc\u00e9e Gabriella, who is gorgeous,\u201d Welch wrapped up her answer, referring to\u00a0Gabbriette Bechtel, by her real name. \u201cSo, we\u2019ve moved on.\u201d OK, then.<\/p>\n

Speaking of moving on: Swift\u2019s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, just posted a photo dump of some wholesome couples content on Instagram. So, looks like everybody got what they wanted in the end!<\/p>\n
