{"id":83190,"date":"2025-07-27T07:46:20","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T07:46:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new365.azontree.com\/?p=83190"},"modified":"2025-07-27T07:46:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T07:46:20","slug":"chiefs-bring-in-ex-crime-boss-to-inspire-kelce-mahomes-and-co","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new365.azontree.com\/?p=83190","title":{"rendered":"Chiefs bring in ex-crime boss to inspire Kelce, Mahomes and Co"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"js-article-text\">\n<ul>\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/phantom-marca.unidadeditorial.es\/29fc410fe855282666a1f789f850ddde\/crop\/0x0\/2044x1363\/resize\/828\/f\/jpg\/assets\/multimedia\/imagenes\/2024\/07\/25\/17219369557846.jpg\" alt=\"Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce amaze fans with their incredible  connection at Chiefs practice | Marca\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By DANIEL MATTHEWS<\/p>\n<p>Published:<time datetime=\"2025-07-27T02:35:00+0100\"> 21:35 EDT, 26 July 2025 <\/time> | Updated: <time datetime=\"2025-07-27T05:43:37+0100\"> 00:43 EDT, 27 July 2025 <\/time><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Kansas City Chiefs were treated to a motivational talk from a reformed crime boss, who then sat alongside Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes\u00a0for a watch party of Happy Gilmore 2.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Andy Reid\u00a0invited Damon West &#8211; a former college quarterback who became a meth addict and was later sentenced to life in prison &#8211; to speak to his players as they prepare for the new NFL season.<\/p>\n<p>West served more than seven years in prison for his role as the mastermind of a burglary ring, after &#8211; in his own words &#8211; the lives of &#8216;so many innocent people&#8217; were &#8216;forever&#8230; changed by the choices he made in order to feed his insatiable meth habit.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>He is on parole in Texas until 2073 but West is now a best-selling author who preaches the &#8216;coffee bean message&#8217;, teaching people &#8216;how to transform their environment, overcome challenges, and create positive change.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>West has worked with teams including the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Timberwolves &#8211; as well as the US Army &#8211; and this week West spoke to the Chiefs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Thank you, Coach Reid, for the invitation to share the coffee bean message with the Kansas City Chiefs,&#8217; the author wrote on social media, alongside a picture of him standing arm in arm with Mahomes, Reid and Kelce.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs are currently in training camp<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>As well as speaking to the players, West sat in on team meetings and a showing of Happy Gilmore 2, which features a cameo from Kelce.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;You blew my mind after the presentation by allowing me to sit in (next to you) on the offensive install meeting,&#8217; West continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;However, watching Happy Gilmore 2 with Pat, Travis, and the whole team is something I\u2019ll never forget.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Reid is known for running one of the most brutal training camps in the NFL. Under their legendary coach, the Chiefs are looking to bounce back from last year&#8217;s Super Bowl heartbreak.<\/p>\n<p>Mahomes, Kelce and Co were eyeing an historic three-peat but Kansas City was humiliated by the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans.<\/p>\n<p>Kelce teased possible retirement from the NFL following that loss.
