Randi Mahomes, mother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, took to social media on Monday to share a family update and ask for prayers and support amid a challenging time for a family member.<\/p>\n
On her Instagram Stories, the Mahomes matriarch shared a photo of herself carrying a baby boy named Luka. Based on Mahomes\u2019 message, the young Luka is the grandson of one of her cousins.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, the child is dealing with a cancer called neuroblastoma and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.<\/p>\n
According to Mayo Clinic, neuroblastoma \u201cis a cancer that starts in cells called neuroblasts\u201d \u2014 which are \u201cimmature nerve cells\u201d found in \u201cseveral areas of the body.\u201d It usually affects children aged five years or younger.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease join me in continuing to pray for my cousin\u2019s grandson,\u201d Mahomes wrote. \u201cSweet Luka is still fighting Stage L2 intermediate neuroblastoma. He is undergoing chemo and fighting hard. His mother, who is an ICU nurse, noticed his breathing was a little fast a few days after and took him to his pediatrician thinking he may have developed pneumonia.
