NBA<\/a>\u00a0Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas has always carried the pride of Chicago with him. And when reflecting on the formative figures of his youth and the architects of basketball excellence in his hometown, Thomas is crystal clear about who deserves their flowers.<\/p>\n

\u201cJerry Krause is the best general manager in Chicago sports history,\u201d Thomas told me by phone. \u201cThere\u2019s nobody else as an executive who brought six NBA Championships to the city of Chicago. Name me somebody else who was better!\u201d<\/p>\n

That respect from Thomas runs deeper than box scores and banners. Born and raised on the West Side of Chicago, he remembers how the city\u2019s basketball culture\u2014and the people behind the scenes\u2014helped shape his journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m from the West Side of Chicago and when I was a kid, Jerry Reinsdorf and his staff were always kind to me,\u201d Thomas recalled. \u201cThey used to sneak me and the kids from the neighborhood into the arena. They treated me like family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thomas\u2019 gratitude for Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf still resonates today.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love how Jerry Reinsdorf treated young people and when I became a pro it was even cooler,\u201d he continued. \u201cIn addition to Krause, I also appreciated the work of Rod Thorn and Joe O\u2019Neil.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beyond the glitz of the\u00a0Chicago Bulls<\/a>\u2019 dynasty years, Thomas recognized a loyalty that stretched beyond the hardwood\u2014one that meant everything to a young kid from K-Town.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen there was pressure for the Bulls to leave the West Side and move to the suburbs when I was a kid, the Bulls stayed put. That\u2019s pressure and I always appreciated that they stayed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

That connection hasn\u2019t faded with time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still have close family, relatives and friends that work for the Chicago Bulls,\u201d Thomas shared. \u201cThe Chicago Bulls have been exceptional to my family and I\u2019m thankful for that.\u201d<\/p>\n
