But, there are still a few loose ends to tie up before\u00a0September kicks in, and the powers at be should feel some pretty to work out a few choice deals before the season starts.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the Chiefs are being urged to work out a deal with star guard Trey Smith soon. The player joined the Chiefs for the beginning of their mandatory minicamp, which was a good sign that he\u2019s taking the high road and also wants to make a deal.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Trey Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs<\/h2>\n<p>So, Smith was at minicamp, but as NBC Sports points out, Smith didn\u2019t attend the Chiefs\u2019 voluntary work this spring \u201cafter receiving the franchise tag at the start of the offseason. Smith signed the tag, so he is under contract for the 2025 season with a a $23.4 million guaranteed salary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two have a deadline in mid-July to work out a new contract or Smith will have to play for the season on a one-year deal.<\/p>\n<p>In a June 17 feature for Bleacher Report, NFL analyst and expert Kristopher Knox rattles off every NFL Team\u2019s to-do tally for the rest of the 2025 offseason. In the feature, he notes that the NFL has \u201cfinally reached the quiet portion of the 2025 NFL offseason. Organized team activities (OTAs) and most mandatory minicamps are over, which means many players are essentially off until the start of training camps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course, even as the offseason gets \u201cquiet,\u201d the decision-makers are still working to ensure that their teams have everything they need going into the new season. As Knox states, \u201ccoaches, general managers and other team decision-makers will simply be idle over the next month. Whether it\u2019s addressing roster holes, executing trades, signing players to new contracts or laying camp plans, every NFL team has something to accomplish before the end of the summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the Chiefs, Knox says extending Trey Smith\u2019s deal is the most important thing on their to-do list.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Kansas City Chiefs have remained in the Super Bowl picture ever since Patrick Mahomes took over as their starting quarterback,\u201d they note in the feature. \u201cHowever, offensive deficiencies loomed large during Kansas City\u2019s 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\u2018Hopefully We Get That Done,\u2019 GM Says of Trey Smith Deal<\/h2>\n<p>Knox urges the team to sign rice ASAP, stating, \u201cThe remaining work must start with an extension for guard Trey Smith, who is currently set to play on the franchise tag. The Chiefs have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term deal with the 25-year-old, which they have planned to do since giving him the tag.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At least general manager Brett Veach isn\u2019t playing hard to get. \u201cHopefully we get that done. There\u2019s no lack of interest or will or desire on our end,\u201d he said during his pre-draft press conference.
