Miami Heat forward Duncan Robinson is one of the longest-tenured players on the team, as he\u2019s spent the entirety of his seven-year playing career in the NBA to this point with the organization. However, his future with the Heat seems to be very much up in the air at this juncture, and a lot of the reason for that has to do with his contract.<\/p>\n

Five Reasons Sports\u2019 Greg Sylvander revealed that the Heat have an intriguing option regarding Robinson\u2019s contract this offseason. First, Robinson has an early termination option in his deal that he could accept by June 29, but the expectation is that he won\u2019t. Assuming Robinson doesn\u2019t use his early termination option, the Heat will have to make a decision to either keep him in the fold and pay him around $20 next season or waive him and only pay him around half that amount.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo Duncan can just terminate the contract by 6\/29,\u201d Sylvander wrote via Discord. \u201cWhich he probably won\u2019t do. So then if he doesn\u2019t terminate the deal, Miami then has to make a decision to keep him for $20M or waive him and only pay $10M. The thing I didn\u2019t know was\u2026they can resign him this offseason IF both parties wanted to remain.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Robinson remains one of the premier 3-point shooters in the NBA, as he shot 39.3 percent from 3-point range on 6.5 attempted 3s per contest in the 2024-25 regular season. Still, he\u2019s long been a one-trick pony in the sense that he doesn\u2019t bring all that much else to the table on offense, so it\u2019s debatable whether he\u2019s worth coughing up nearly $20 million to next season.<\/p>\n

Maybe a contract extension for Robinson from the Heat at a reduced annual salary would be the best course of action for the two sides, as even though Robinson might not be worthy of how much money he\u2019s making now, he is still a valuable piece of Miami\u2019s supporting cast and has been for a long time now.<\/p>\n

Hopefully, Robinson will still be playing for the Heat at the start of the 2025-26 season and help Miami have a bounce-back campaign after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign. The Heat won just 37 of their 82 games during the regular season and traded forward Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors midway through the campaign.<\/p>\n

Plus, the Heat didn\u2019t stand a chance against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the opening round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, as they got swept and lost three of the four games by more than 20 points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
