The New York Yankees quite literally could not have been having a worse Sunday, blanked by their rivals at Fenway Park to complete an embarrassing sweep. Carlos Narvaez, the catcher they gave away to Boston this offseason, walked off Game 1. Greg Weissert and Garrett Whitlock, two ex-Yankee farmhands, saved Games 2 and 3. The Red Sox, of course, who live to troll, win the World Series every six or so years as a side quest.<\/p>\n

Then, about two hours after the final out, they turned the hose on their own fans and decided to troll those who believe in them most instead of the rest of the league. And, just like that, things got a little bit brighter for Yankee fans \u2014 and a whole lot darker for 2007 Red Sox World Series closer Jonathan Papelbon.<\/p>\n

Papelbon, like most Sox fans, was in total disbelief at the moment that FanSided MLB insider Robert Murray’s initial tweet dropped regarding a trade of Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. Unfortunately, unlike most Sox fans, Pap has a massive platform and a wide reach on his immediate reaction.<\/p>\n

That reaction? Complete dismissal. No way. No way<\/em>. Everyone calm down. Don’t believe what you read. Except … well … everyone confirmed the news a few minutes later.<\/p>\n

Yankees fans have to laugh at Red Sox icon Jonathan Papelbon’s reaction to Rafael Devers blockbuster trade<\/h2>\n

Just want to thank the Red Sox again for the massive favor they just did for the Yankees \u2014 not only extracting a Yankee Killer from the rivalry and sending him to San Francisco, but ruining Jonathan Papelbon’s day. That always feels warm and comfortable.<\/p>\n

Devers, the man who owns Gerrit Cole to an unholy degree and has made countless Yankee games miserable, will now head to the National League West after having been kicked off Boston’s team plane and sent to the airport in a cab with precious little fanfare. If that level of disrespect doesn’t sink Boston’s karmic ship, then we don’t know what will.<\/p>\n

Of course, the baseball gods have chosen to reward upstanding citizens like Papelbon time and again for decades, so who really knows anymore? Regardless of the future, things certainly feel good in the here and now, which would’ve been shocking to contemplate even 12 hours prior. The very idea would’ve left us sputtering like Pap.<\/p>\n
