(AP Photo\/Terrance Williams)AP<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p id=\"OHD3AWGULFEH3AXEAANKRMIUYQ\"><b>NEW YORK \u2014 <\/b>The Mets haven\u2019t gotten much production out of third base since Mark Vientos went down with a right hamstring strain on June 2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.<\/p>\n<p id=\"C77DE57ERNGIFNYEREFVQSDY2I\">Fortunately, the injury was considered low-grade, and Vientos has been able to ramp up quicker than expected.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5VQXEBYKWVDLZOBQ4NMSEGPI4U\">On Saturday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza provided an update on his young third baseman.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ZYAFN2KI2NEV5MQRRBVS5TLTEY\">\u201cHe ran yesterday up to 90%, (and) he\u2019s a full-go as far as hitting (and) taking groundballs,\u201d Mendoza told reporters on Saturday. \u201cThe goal is for him to play in some games in Triple-A next week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"RKVNHM5CONEC7DKLJBU6DGK7YQ\">In 11 games without Vientos, players filling in at the position, Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio, are 11-for-66 (.166 batting average) with four home runs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"N44REKQQ6NCQROJJNOY7I7WGSM\">This is in stark contrast to the offensive consistency Vientos provided to the position. In his last 35 games, Vientos was batting .273\/.323\/.446 with 10 extra-base hits.<\/p>\n<p id=\"S456LZ7LKZAELN7ZQTMWVKZSGM\">In Saturday\u2019s 8-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, both Mauricio and Baty homered, showing signs of life in their mostly silent bats.<\/p>\n<p id=\"7M27UYF35VDHNIAAERRRGSITF4\">Mauricio, in particular, was called up with much excitement after Vientos\u2019s injury after going 17-for-33 (.515 batting average) with three home runs in nine Triple-A games before getting the call.<\/p>\n<p id=\"SZYQMDUSL5H23KEQVPNTSYNE54\">In the big leagues, he\u2019s shown he needs more time to adjust. In nine games, he\u2019s 5-for-34 (.147 batting average) with two solo home runs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"7X6DE75NTBC2RKV2HUA2Q2JPAU\">\u201cHe\u2019s been on and off,\u201d Mendoza said. \u201cWe saw a couple of good games in Colorado, but then missing pitches in the strike zone and then they\u2019re making him chase. Again, i\u2019ve been saying it, we gotta be patient with him.
