On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs conducted the next-to-last practice in Phase 3 of their organized team activities (OTAs) \u2014 and just like last Wednesday\u2019s session, reporters were on hand to observe.<\/p>\n
Last week marked the first time local media members had seen the team\u2019s first-round draft pick Josh Simmons on the field with his teammates. He was back out there on Thursday \u2014 and head coach Andy Reid is happy with what he\u2019s been seeing from the former Ohio State left tackle, who has been working his way back from a patellar tendon injury he suffered last October.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s doing a nice job,\u201d said Reid after practice. \u201cWe weren\u2019t sure quite how much we were going to be able to get out of him, but he looks strong. He\u2019s been jumping in and taking the team reps now \u2014 he was just doing the individual stuff before \u2014 and you can definitely see the talent. He\u2019s gotta keep learning the stuff that [offensive line coach] Andy [Heck\u2019s] teaching him \u2014 fundamentally [and] technique-wise \u2014 but he sure has a good attitude about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reid acknowledged that the team had been taking it slow with Simmons.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve done that with him,\u201d he admitted, \u201cand he\u2019s asked for more. We\u2019ve kind of kept backing him up here and easing him into it. But you could tell that he rehabbed \u2014 [and] did a nice job with it. Obviously the people that did the surgery did a nice job, so it looks like he\u2019s in good shape.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reid then took another opportunity to emphasize how much the coaching staff likes Simmons\u2019 attitude.<\/p>\n
