With Kodai Senga heading for the injured list after suffering a hamstring injury earlier today, the Mets are set to call up fellow right-handed pitcher Max Kranick to take him place on the active roster, per multiple beat reporters covering the team.<\/p>\n
When it comes to taking Senga\u2019s place in the rotation, the Mets have a few options, but for the next four games, the team can opt to use its other four starting pitchers and roll with a nine-man bullpen. Clay Holmes, Tylor Megill, and Griffin Canning are currently scheduled to pitch the Mets\u2019 next three games as the team hosts the Rays in Queens, and David Peterson would be the next starter in line to get the series opener in Atlanta on Tuesday after the team has a day off between those two series. Whether or not the Mets mix things up a bit this weekend and bump Canning until the series in Atlanta remains to be seen.<\/p>\n
In 33.1 innings with the Mets to start the season, Kranick had a 3.51 ERA and a 3.53 FIP. The fact that he was sent down to Triple-A Syracuse had as much to do with the fact that he had options remaining as anything else, and he made a pair of relief appearances in between being optioned and this call-up.<\/p>\n
As for Senga, at the time of this writing, his 1.47 ERA is the best mark in baseball among qualified starting pitchers. The Mets should be able to get by alright in his absence, but it would be ideal if he didn\u2019t miss too much time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
