The talented playmaker is expected to be part of Billy Donovan\u2019s second unit next season.<\/p>\n<p>However, Ball\u2019s name continues to be floated in trade discussions. The veteran guard has struggled with injuries in recent years and could be available via trade for the right price.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent mailbag episode of his \u201cBuha\u2019s Block\u201d podcast, The Athletic\u2019s Jovan Buha was asked whether the Los Angeles Lakers would consider bringing Ball back to his hometown. Buha noted that a lot would depend on price, but he believes the Lakers would show some level of interest.<\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_n6o8u6v1x\">\u201cI do, I think they would be,\u201d Buha said. \u201cIt\u2019s just a matter of what his price is and you have to factor in his health and the history there\u2026 you can\u2019t even pencil him in for 60 games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ball spent two seasons with the Lakers after being drafted by the franchise with the 2nd overall pick in 2017. He played in 99 games for the Lakers, averaging 10 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists, shooting 38% from the field.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Ball is a better player than when he left the Lakers. And while injuries have undoubtedly derailed his career, he could get himself back on track as part of JJ Redick\u2019s bench rotation.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Mavericks Could Also Show Interest in Ball<\/h2>\n<p>According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Ball could emerge as a \u201creasonable\u201d trade target for the Dallas Mavericks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeague sources say Dallas is expected to at least explore whether there are any feasible trade pathways to Boston\u2019s\u00a0Jrue Holiday\u00a0\u2014 complicated as that would likely be given the three years and $104 million still left on Holiday\u2019s contract \u2014 while also maintaining an interest in a far more reasonable trade target as we\u2019ve discussed\u00a0on the DLLS Mavs podcast:\u00a0Lonzo Ball,\u201d\u00a0Stein reported.<\/p>\n<p>Ball, when healthy, is an elite playmaker and solid perimeter defender. He\u2019s the sort of guard who can help unlock a defense and make everyone around him a better player. Of course, significant concerns will be regarding his ability to stay on the floor. And that could limit his trade market and the return the Bulls could get for his services.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Ball is Grateful For Bulls\u2019 Patience and Support<\/h2>\n<p>In a recent episode of \u00a0Cameron Brink\u2019s \u201cStraight to Cam\u201d podcast, Ball shared his gratitude for the patience the Bulls have shown him throughout his injury issues.<\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_lx66u5chj\">\u201cIf you have a good organization that is behind you and letting you heal, that\u2019s huge,\u201d Ball said. \u201cShoutout to the Bulls for that because when I was going through it, a lot of teams could have pushed me to the side and said that was whatever. But they stuck with me through the whole way\u2026It\u2019s never going to be like a super smooth process coming back. The work that you put in as a kid and all the repetition, I think that\u2019s a pretty big thing. People who don\u2019t know how to, it\u2019s kind of like you\u2019re just going through limbo land.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_lx66u5chj\">Now that Ball is healthy again, Chicago could look to maximize their return for the former top-two pick. However, that means that he is more likely to be traded closer to the trade deadline. After all, that would give Ball multiple months of basketball to raise his value around the NBA.<\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_lx66u5chj\">Nevertheless, it\u2019s unlikely anyone in Chicago would be upset if Ball remains on the roster.
