A big name has just hit the free agent market that could grab the attention of the\u00a0Kansas City Chiefs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Green Bay Packers<\/a>\u00a0have\u00a0released cornerback Jaire Alexander<\/a>\u00a0after failing to trade him during the offseason.<\/p>\n

A former 2018 first-round draft pick, Alexander is a two-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler. He has recorded 287 total tackles, 70 passes defensed, 12 interceptions, and three forced fumbles in 78 career games.<\/p>\n

\n

Why did the Packers release Alexander?<\/h2>\n

It certainly had nothing to do with his talent, but rather the 34 games he has missed since 2021 due to injuries. Set to make over $16 million in base salary in 2025, the Packers simply couldn’t afford another gamble on him. Alexander underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in early 2025.<\/p>\n

How could Alexander fit with the Chiefs?<\/h2>\n

Acquiring Alexander could jolt Kansas City’s secondary to one of the best in the league. When Jaylen Watson missed 11 games with an ankle injury in 2024, the Chiefs didn’t have very good depth to fill in for him. Alexander could actually push Watson for a starting role in 2025.<\/p>\n

Trent McDuffie is obviously the No. 1 CB leading the way for the secondary. The Chiefs signed Kristian Fulton during free agency and drafted Nohl Williams in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Bringing Alexander into the fold would allow K.C. to take it slow\u00a0with Williams’ development<\/a>\u00a0as he learns under several high-caliber veterans.<\/p>\n

The Chiefs have to go through many elite quarterbacks in the AFC, so investing at the CB position is never a bad idea. Alexander’s presence could also keep things versatile, as he and McDuffie could rotate from out\u00a0on the boundary and inside the slot<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The ultimate question with Alexander is whether or not he’ll be fully recovered from his surgery and ready to go in 2025, and how much money he’ll command on the open market.
