As was hinted at earlier today, the Mets officially called up infielder Ronny Mauricio to the big league roster. Additionally, left-handed pitcher Brandon Waddell was recalled from Triple-A, right-hander Max Kranick was optioned to Syracuse, and third baseman\/designated hitter Mark Vientos was placed on the ten-day Injured List.<\/p>\n

This is how our Vasilis Drimalitis summed up Mauricio\u2019s 2025 earlier today:<\/p>\n

Mauricio has been scorching hot in Triple-A this season, hitting .515\/.564\/.818 with three home runs, eight runs batted in, and 10 runs scored in nine games. The Mets have been clear about wanting to give him some additional reps before calling him up, but his torrid pace has likely forced the club\u2019s hand.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Mauricio will wear #10 for the Mets.<\/p>\n

Vientos hurt his hamstring running out of the box in the tenth inning of last night\u2019s victory over the Dodgers and needed to be piggy-backed onto the field for the team\u2019s post-game celebration. Vientos, who had a breakout season in 2024, was struggling to find a groove this season thus far, hitting .230\/.298\/.380 with six home runs. With Brett Baty excelling defensively at third base, Vientos was getting more than half of his at-bats as a designated hitter over the last few weeks.<\/p>\n

Kranick is simply the victim of needing fresh arms for a long stretch of games and starters not going as deep as the Mets would\u2019ve hoped. Kranick has been good this season, even if he\u2019s come back to Earth a bit as the season has progressed. He\u2019s currently the owner of a 3.51 ERA with a minuscule 0.8 walks per nine innings.<\/p>\n

This will be Brandon Waddell\u2019s third trip to the major leagues this season. In both prior outings, Waddell pitched multiple innings out of the bullpen, going four and a third innings on April 30th behind opener Huascar Brazob\u00e1n and relieved Griffin Canning with five innings on May 28th. The former appearance was a much more successful one, whereas in his most recent appearance he gave up four runs on seven hits, one walk and three strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Because Waddell was just up last week, his recall is technically the corresponding move to Vientos\u2019s injury, so that he does not have to wait the customary ten-day period before being called up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
