{"id":65841,"date":"2025-05-31T07:19:32","date_gmt":"2025-05-31T07:19:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new365.azontree.com\/?p=65841"},"modified":"2025-05-31T07:19:32","modified_gmt":"2025-05-31T07:19:32","slug":"chiefs-at-risk-of-diminishing-home-field-advantage-after-ownership-intervention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new365.azontree.com\/?p=65841","title":{"rendered":"Chiefs At Risk Of Diminishing Home Field Advantage After Ownership Intervention"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"post-featured-container-id\">\n<div id=\"post-featured\">\n<div>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2197519754-e1748645084630.jpg?quality=65&amp;strip=all&amp;w=780\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 820px) 95vw, 780px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2197519754-e1748645084630.jpg?quality=65&amp;strip=all&amp;w=780 780w, https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2197519754-e1748645084630.jpg?quality=15&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1100 1100w, https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2197519754-e1748645084630.jpg?quality=35&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1350 1350w\" alt=\"Chiefs At Risk Of Diminishing Home Field Advantage After Ownership Intervention\" width=\"780\" height=\"439\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Getty<\/p>\n<p>Kansas City Chiefs Clark Hunt Feb 03, 2025<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Kansas City Chiefs have unquestionably been the dominant force of the 2020s (so far), having won 3 Super Bowls this decade and quite possibly more to come under head coach, Andy Reid, and superstar franchise quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.<\/p>\n<p>However, football also has a key business side, and that side is currently focused on making some potentially big changes to the team\u2019s hardware \u2013 namely, the stadium.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Athletic\u2019s Nate Taylor, the Chiefs\u2019 owner, Clark Hunt, is very interested in turning the Chiefs\u2019 notorious \u2018Arrowhead\u2019 stadium into a domed area.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst the ownership is still split on whether to update and renovate Arrowhead or build an entirely new domed stadium in Kansas City, the intent for doing so is abundantly clear \u2013 to host big-time national sporting and entertainment events.<\/p>\n<h2>Chiefs Looking To \u2018Dome Up\u2019 To Host More Events<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI do think for the community, a dome would be a tremendous asset,\u201d Hunt said in March, per Tayor. \u201cIt would give the Kansas City region an opportunity to host significant events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA domed stadium \u2014 similar to venues such as SoFi Stadium (Los Angeles Rams and Chargers) Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas Raiders) and U.S. Bank Stadium (Minnesota Vikings)\u201d, Taylor wrote, \u201cWould allow the Chiefs to host numerous events: the Final Four, a College Football Playoff game, the Big 12 football championship game, more concerts, college bowl games and WWE events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And beyond hosting college football and musical events, having a new domed stadium could well allow the Chiefs to do something that they have never done in their entire history \u2013 host a Super Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHunt believes a dome would give the Chiefs the chance to host a Super Bowl.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the opportunity to hold more events in the regular and offseason is not just an opportunity in and of itself, as the Hunts see the dome as a way to increase team profits and build enduring brand recognition long term.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat option [to add a domed stadium] has already led Hunt and team president Mark Donovan to answer the question of whether a dome in Kansas would guarantee higher profits for the Chiefs and lead to more lucrative, alluring opportunities for the region,\u201d Taylor continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes,\u201d was Donovan\u2019s answer during the league meeting. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely part of the conversations in Kansas. This is one of the reasons you do this.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Adding A Dome Could Hinder The Chiefs\u2019 Cold-Weather Advantage<\/h2>\n<p>Whilst the Chiefs\u2019 Kingdom have already been not particularly receptive to the idea, according to Taylor, particularly given the cost to the taxpayer that it would likely incur in for the state Missouri, they could be more deterred by the fact that a dome could reduce their much-felt advantage during the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>The noise and wind at Arrowhead makes it almost impossible for opposing quarterbacks to hear play-calls \u2013 something that is far less of an issue when playing in an enclosed space.
