LeBron James is expected to return to the Los Angeles Lakers for at least one more season.<\/p>\n

ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania dropped a hint at what the 40-year-old Lakers star will do with his $52.6 million player option.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m told he\u2019s likely to opt in,\u201d Charania said on \u201cThe Pat McAfee Show\u201d on Tuesday. \u201cHe\u2019s got a massive player option. That\u2019s likely. That\u2019s the plan. But, again, his option date is June 29th. So he still has about a month to figure that out.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

James opting in would make him an unrestricted free agent after next season. It will be a departure from what he did in the previous years of declining the player option and signing one-plus-one deals to maintain his flexibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s going to be some hard conversations that are going to happen between him, the Lakers, seeing what this team looks like. Because, listen, LeBron James, whether he plays one more season or a few more seasons, he wants to be in a competitive environment.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The Lakers clinched the No. 3 seed but bowed out in the first round of the playoffs in five games. After trading for\u00a0Luka Don\u010di\u0107, the Lakers are only left with one first-round pick, Dalton Knecht and over $70 million in expiring contracts at their disposal to add a significant talent.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s probably going to opt in because the option is so big,\u201d Charania said, \u201cand that gives you flexibility to figure out do you extend off that number or this is the final year, if this is the last hurrah, essentially. Year 23 for No. 23. They have the All-Star weekend in Los Angeles. So, to me, it\u2019s very storybook if that\u2019s the way it goes. But that\u2019s a decision that he\u2019s gotta make.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2018No Idea\u2019 on LeBron\u2019s Decision, Says Rich Paul<\/h2>\n

Charania\u2019s report came on the heels of Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, James\u2019 agent, playing coy about his top client\u2019s looming decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no idea,\u201d Paul said on the \u201cRich Eisen Show on May 22 when asked about James\u2019 plan.\u201d \u201cZero.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul just echoed James\u2019 sentiments on the matter after the Lakers\u2019 season ended with a first-round exit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have an answer to that,\u201d\u00a0James told reporters after their Lakers\u2019 elimination. \u201cSomething I\u2019ll sit down with my family, my wife and my support group and kind of just talk through it and see what happens. And just have a conversation with myself on how long I want to continue to play.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Paul explained that their process is to weigh everything and see how James is feeling about continuing to play.<\/p>\n

\u201cSame process it\u2019s been for the last I don\u2019t know how many years,\u201d Paul said. \u201cHe\u2019ll come around to what he\u2019s thinking at some point and we\u2019ll kinda go over some things and go from there.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

LeBron\u2019s Historic All-NBA Nod<\/h2>\n

James remains to be one of the elite players in the league. He continues to defy Father Time as he rewrote history as the oldest NBA player to be in the All-NBA Team, which he set last year at 39.<\/p>\n

The Lakers star made it to the All-NBA Second Team, joining\u00a0New York Knicks\u00a0guard\u00a0Jalen Brunson,\u00a0Golden State Warriors\u00a0guard\u00a0Stephen Curry,\u00a0Minnesota Timberwolves\u00a0guard\u00a0Anthony Edwards\u00a0and\u00a0Cleveland Cavaliers\u00a0forward-center\u00a0Evan Mobley in the second team.<\/p>\n

\u201cALL NBA at 40!! Low-key crazy to me right now! Sitting here watching the playoffs just thinking about it. Blessed beyond I can even imagine.\ud83d\udc51\ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffe,\u201d\u00a0James wrote on X\u00a0after the league\u2019s announcement.<\/p>\n

James earned his 21st All-NBA berth after averaging 24.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game on his 22nd NBA season. He shot 51.3% from the field and 37.6% from the three-point line.<\/p>\n
