Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in their bid to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer as the striker\u2019s uncle has revealed \u201cwe decided that he has to stay\u201d at Sporting this summer.<\/p>\n
Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta is looking to get their transfer business done early this summer and having agreed to trigger Martin Zubimendi\u2019s \u00a351m release clause to land the midfielder from Real Sociedad, Gyokeres has been identified as their top striker target.<\/p>\n
A report on Tuesday seemed to suggest that Arsenal had opted for Gyokeres and that a transfer for the Sweden international \u2018will become official next week\u2019.<\/p>\n
It is understood that the Gunners will wait until after Sporting\u2019s final match of the season before attempting to complete a deal and the report added that the Taca de Portugal final \u2018will be Gyokeres\u2019 final game for the club\u2019.<\/p>\n
And now Gyokeres\u2019 Sporting Lisbon team-mate Pedro Goncalves has revealed that the Arsenal target was still playing coy in the dressing room.<\/p>\n
When asked whether he had asked Gyokeres to stay in Lisbon, Goncalves replied on Canal 11: \u201cI asked him and we all asked him. He says he\u2019s not a fortune teller.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe still have the Portuguese Cup against Benfica to play.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have a very good relationship with him, but I don\u2019t talk about it with him.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I know is because of Fabrizio Romano\u2026 I\u2019m sticking with him. I don\u2019t know if he\u2019s going to leave.\u201d<\/p>\n
Manchester United, who have long-been linked with the 26-year-old, have surely now ruled themselves out of the running having lost the Europa League final, meaning they won\u2019t be playing Champions League football next term.<\/p>\n
But Arsenal may also be left disappointed as Gyokeres uncle revealed after Sporting\u2019s title celebrations that \u201cwe decided that he has to stay\u201d with the Portuguese club.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very happy, it\u2019s fantastic,\u201d Chris Gyokeres told Portuguese outlet Record during Sporting\u2019s title celebrations. \u201cWe were here last year, it\u2019s the same spirit.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the same people, it\u2019s the same atmosphere. Absolutely fantastic! I\u2019m speechless!\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked whether Gyokeres could stay at Sporting Lisbon for another season, he added: \u201cYesterday at dinner we decided that he has to stay.<\/p>\n
